what size tires are you all using on your 15"x6" wheels (that were free)?

i posted earlier but didn't get much of a response on the size only the brand. the size choices for my 90 fwd sedan are:

 

195/55/15 appears to be good but has a lighter load rating than the other 3 choices (1135#) but is rated higher than the O.E. 14" size(1102#).

195/60/15 looks too tall and only one realchoice in tire

205/50/15 might be too wide for 6" rim

205/55/15 probably too wide for 6" rim

 

the goal is to keep close to the stock 175/70/14 size.

what do you think?

so no one uses any of these sizes on their 15x6 wheels?

i appreciated the hep earlier w/the brands o choose from now i just need to igure out the size.

I could help you if it were 16" wheels.

 

I'm running 205/45 r16, 215/45 r16 is actually dead on. One thing you need to keep in mind is the stock speedo is usually off slightly. Even with the 175/70 r14, I believe it read slightly faster. So bumping up rolling resistance just a tad might make your speedo more accurate.

 

When I was looking at 15" wheels a long time ago, I think I was looking at 195/60 r15 and 205/50 r15

Rides great, no rub, corners like a go-kart and looks much better than the wimpy OEMs. 'Course the alloys replacing the steely/plastic hubcaps don't hurt the looks either.

what size rim width are those on? and what brand of tire are you using? that is the current body style right? i wonder if it has more room than my 90?

the early legacies aren't going to have as much room in the rear fenderwell. If you can do some test fitting or something like that, it would be good.

I picked them up from a friend that owns a tire store, takeoffs consignment from a guy who went ricer. They actually have a fairly aggressive all weather tread. They handle great, but sing a bit much at speed.

 

I had a ply seperation sidewall bulge in one of my tires and with the mileage I was looking at four new tires. I picked these up for less than what the tires alone would have cost ($240.00, including mounting/balancing my winter studdeds on my OEM steelies ... the curb-kissed plastic wheelcovers went in the dumpster).

and here are the specs for the kumho ecsta supra 712 in a 195/55VR15 size

the tire rack claims that the 195/60/15 is the only tire that will fit my car for sure. but it appears that the 195/55/15 ithe closest in overal to the 14 and is almost identical to the 195/60/15 in all other dimensions.

i think i will get the yoko in the 195/55/15 but they dont have specs for it yet since it a new size recently.

i am just looking to see what others have done so i dont have to literally re-invent the wheel.

I have the khumo ecsta 716 tires in the 195'60-15 and love them. Much better footprint than the stock 175/70-14's. I like them because i play in the gravel and on dirt roads and they aren't to low or two wide to just float on the top, but they are still wide enough to be sticky on tarmac. I bbeat the crap put of these tires ( aspiring to be richard burns or collin Mcrae :>)

I payed $37 for each and plan to race auto cross with them. They are pretty chirpy if you slide around much. but i am going for Falken Azenis sport 205/50-15 when i shred these. It should take a while though. One year on these tires and they still look good.

My friend got a good deal on a set of stock-Subaru late model (1999) alloy rims (15 X 6) and runs 195 60R15s on them on his 1994 Subaru Legacy wagon that originally came with steel wheels with 185 70R14s on them. He loves the upgrade in handling.

 

I don't know what changes in suspension took place between your model year and the 1994...so I can't say for sure if you may have a tire rubbing issue or not. There are a lot of tire shops that will test fit a particular size tire for you to make sure.
