Outabck shifting problems..

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I bought a used '97 outback with 75k miles on it, and I took it in to have all the stuff that I would have had done at 60k. I live in colorado, and I took it over the passes etc.. just after the tune up to head back to college. It ran great.

A day or so later I started it up to go to work, and it wouldn't shift out of first. I hadn't warmed it up like I usually do, but that should not be an excuse for it to not shift out of first. I stopped and let the engine warm up, and after that it shifted fine. I took it to the subaru dealer and had them put some transmission fluid in because it was low. This still did not cure the problem.

Any ideas? It almost seems like I have to get the engine warmer and warmer each time I drive before it will shift out of first.

Have you guys run into this problem? It only started happening after I took it in to have it serviced. Any ideas?

Help!

Thanks,

Robert

I had a similar problem with my 99 ob/sw...hard 1-2 shift when cold after it warmed up everything was fine....this year the 1-2 shift crept up into all shifts until warm....I was running amsoil syn atf and had more than regular filter changes...I could not find anyone who could tell me exactly what the cause was...manuals did not address the exact cause....had several "might be's"...I was advised to get the complete trans flush and to check the line pressure....I eventually traded for an 03 legacy se...good luck....I searched the archives here but could not find anything that fit my exact problem...might give Teagues auto a call , he is a sponser here...boxer4racing...he is an independent sub. shop and an ex indy mechanic...has lots of knowlege on stock subs...my .o2 bd
