I'm looking for struts for a 98 O/B here in Canada,(Que). Has anyone had any luck ?? I've called a couple of autoparts places and they don't list them.

I haven't called the dealer yet to find out what their price is....I'm scared.

I would look at http://www.1stsubaruparts.com. I think they are about $90 there, list for about $120.

I have one new OEM rear strut that I would let go for about half of that ($45) if you are interested. I can't remember what side it is for. I bought two for the same side on ebay and bought the other one from 1stsubaruparts.

A lot of people on here talk about ordering struts from other places online. Someone will certainly chime in.

Bought four struts from them (not installed yet).

Ad about 50$ Can for shipping and 25$ for custom fees and see if it comes out better than the price they want at the dealership. It probably will.

One way to lower the shipping cost per item is to order at the same time things you know you will need relatively shortly.

I ordered four struts, a clutch assembly, front pads and an alternator all at the same time.

Mine are getting weak on my 97 OB (but 370k km too).

My dealer told me approximately $230 front, $280 rear each (Cdn) list price. I know I can do a little better than that, even from them. Definitely shop around though.

A while back, someone posted that the KYB aftermarket shocks are about 15% stiffer than OEM. I find that odd since they make the OEM shocks. If that is true, I'm not sure what I will do since I don't want stiffer shocks for my purposes.

Commuter, if I take your dealer's price as a reference, the four shocks would cost 1100$ Can!!!

I got the four of them for 434$ Can at 1stSubaruparts.

Add at most 100$ for shipping and duties and you're still far ahead.

frag,

I do believe that the Outback struts are more money than the Legacy wagon. Longer suspension travel, meant for mild offroading, etc. How much more, I don't know. The prices fall right in line with what Chip was quoted from the dealer. I don't doubt you are right though that they would still be less expensive brought in from the States.

being from canada as well i can tell you that you'll pay a large amount of duties and brokerage fees if you import anything from another country. You should be able to find your parts easily in canada.

For example if you want to upgrade you could get 4 kyb agx struts for about $530 CDN inc. tax.

go to http://www.toronto-subaru-club.com and there's many vendors that'll help you get what you need

98 Outback 90$ USD each from 1stSubaruparts like 99obw wrote.

So 470$ Can for the set of OEM struts. Thats half the can. dealer cost even taking shipping and duties into account.

Cost me 100$ shipping for four struts, one clutch set, one alt, 4 front pads.

Duty is around (I will check when back home) 30$ and is for paper work and does'nt seem to vary much with the price of the shipment.

I had ordered two small sensors from them previously and the duty cost was about the same.

Chip, they ship with UPS (you can track the shipment from start to finish on their Internet site) and deliver to your home. Two of the struts out of stock but when they finaly got them (about two weeks) shipping took no more than 5 days to Montreal.

You pay shipping, duties and taxes to the UPS guy. He has a wireless card reader :)

Very satisfied up to now.

The sensors (cam and crank) I ordered from them previously were 22$ Can each. They would have cost me around 300$ for both if bought in Canada.

But that's an exception I think. The price differential is good but less than that most of the time.
