Gen1 Owner again!

Recommended Posts

Arived back at home around 6:30pm today with the new project. She's a 1978 DL Wagon, but almost fully loaded. Small problems consist of non operational Speedo, Blower motor (or heat for that matter). No FWD, driving in 4WD on the rear diff right now.

Pictures can be seen here:

Its got a fair amount of rust, but nothing that can't be removed. Not sure if I want to restore it or just get it registered and use it as the new daily driver.

Duh, it's an old Subaru. That's a given

How good would a set of exhaust gaskets (manifolds, flange, etc.) and some exhaust repair putty be for this particular car? Or is it too far gone?

What does the pinion gear do? And how would i know if it was broken?

The tranny fluid looked real creamy. I will have to drain it and replace it.

I have a lead on a Gen1 D/R Tranny, and the bellhousing that will mate it to a EA81. Not sure if I wanna swap all that in, or keep it stock... but its a possiblilty

What impressed me was the fact I could keep up with NV Zeno the entire way home. Without a speedo, i have no idea how fast we had that lil 1600 going.

that wagon is sweet!! what kind of tire is that spare? it looks tractiony(is this a word?) i've had my 1600 up to 98 or so while "following" a legacy. i forgot what else i was gonna say:confused:

And hey if you wanted to trade like say a EA-81 for a gen 1 tranny I am up for that lol cause I have the one in my wagon that I am yanking out for a d/r 4sp that is in my garage. And oh leadfoot (aka me) has had my wagon up to about 85 almost 90 with the 1400!!!!!:D

Thanks Dave... and goodluck.

For all those who dont know... Mendo Dave is the one who hooked me up. His friend is the one who had this car, and from what I can gather he's the 2nd owner... 1st owner being a relative of his. Dave also was kind enough to store the car at his house for the past 3 months until I could make room for it here.

Thank Peter again for me, and let him know the next time he see's this car, it will look like it just rolled off the factory line.... (hopefully).
