Compatibility with engines

Hi, I'm trying to find out which engines and from which years will fit my 1998 Legacy Outback. Originally its a 2.5L.

 

Any help is appreciated.

Call Emily or Rick at CCR Engines Inc. They are a Subaru engine rebuilder.

 

I have heard Emily say that some people have put in the 2.2 instead of the 2.5L. People have also put in the newer 2.5L SOHC engine into late 90's Legacys, but there is some work to doing that. I don't know beyond that.
