i need new tires for my 90 2wd sedan w/4w discs

i have acquired some 15x6 OB 6 spoke wheels and want new tires. not sure what to get though.

the choices are:

195/60/15 yokohama avs es 100

or

205/55/15 kumho ecsta supra 712

1.will the 205/55 fit the car?

2.how much grip will the 195/60 give up to the 205/55?

3a.will the 205/55 fit well on a 6" wheel?

3b.or will the sidewall roll over too much in hard cornering and risk popping the bead off?

price doesn matter since they are both nearly the same price. i will not get the yoko in the 205/55 though cuz it cost 30 dollars more than the 195/60. and the kuhmo isnt available in the 195/60.

any help would be cool, thanks in advance!

I think you'll be happier with the yokos. They're normally pretty firm tires, and despite the higher profile may still provide better stability than the kumhos. also, IMO, 60 series is a nice combo between handling and ride.

another choice is either of the tires in a 205/50/15

reviews in grassroots motorsports give the kuhmo better levels of grip and the yoko a better daily ride and a tire that is actually a good compromise between performance and ride quality.

This is from yokohama tire, for legal rim/tire sizing...

Interesting.

The one set of low profile kumhos I'd ridden were "wobbly," like a thin sidewall feel. There again, that's only one set...

i also get the impression that the 712 may soon be replaced. and for some crazy reason the yoko avs es100 in 205/50/15 isnt all that expensive and appears to be very similar in size and load requirements as the 175/70/14's that are on it now.

Having had these tires on my 90 Legacy 2wd back to back I have noticed a couple thing.

I really like the handling of the Yokohamas, even in an H rating, although the tire wears pretty quick. ( semi- aggressive driving, family car don't ya' know)

The Kuhmos are wearing well but the tires are smaller in the same size. ( 195/65's)

Two cents in your general direction.

Regards,

Jay
