Guest drOutback
The IIHS has just devolped a new side impact test using a crash barrier moving at 31mph that mimics a large SUV. The Forester equipped with side airbags did the best! Who knows what the ratings would have been without side bags, but who cares. The B pillar crush percentage was only 40%, so with or without side airbags it still would have done well, as long as the dummies head wouldn't have hit the barrier. Here's the "raw" data. www.iihs.org/vehicle_rati...v_side.htm

Guest drOutback
What's interesting is that only the Escape/Tribute did as well, and only if equipped with side airbags which are standard on the Forester. All the other SUV's were horrible, many with over 50% of B pillar crush.
Guest Drquasievil
Now if the Forester wasn't that ugly looking and less expensive I would think about buying one.

Guest subyroo
Have a look and a read at these 2 sites if you want to see how well the Forresters withstand impacts. <a href="http://irvinesubaru.com/enthu/forrester1.html" target="top">irvinesubaru.com/enthu/forrester1.html</a> <a href="http://irvinesubaru.com/enthu/forrester2.html" target="top">irvinesubaru.com/enthu/forrester2.html</a>
Guest drOutback
Those were some bad crashes. 70mph into a brick wall! I've seen peole die in less severe crashes then that. A local person was just killed in a crash on I-83. He was driving a '00+ GT sedan on the on ramp to I-83 when an axle broke off an 18 wheeler, and the axle rolled down the road up the on ramp and slammed into his drivers side door. What a freak accident.<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/ohwell.gif ALT=":\">
