Changing oil

Loyale 92, 101K on EA82, 190K on the rest

 

I put the cheapest stuff I can find in local Walmart, sometimes SuperTech 10/30 although this time I am thinking I will go with something a bit better, whatever is on sale. I like trying out different oils, not that I can tell any difference.

 

I use Purolator Pure one filter.

 

And I change oil at 4,000 miles, when I feel like it.

in little Junky (ea81 hatchback) i mix 10w40 with 20w50 in these cold months.. also i use about 8oz of marvel mystery oil just to keep it clean inside..

 

i only use castrol gtx oil in my soobs.. seems to be the all around best for these engines.. as well as the purolator pure one oil filters..

 

in the summer i just run plain 10w40 castrol with 8 oz of MMO..

 

in the ole station wagon i always ran 20w50 year round.. just cause it had so many miles on it.. 290k

 

always add 8 oz of mmo at every oil change.. i figure with one ea82T engine having 290k original the mmo has got to be doing something in there.. specially since the engine still runs.. just needs a reseal at this point..

ok its bad to run ghetto oil. its worse to run multiple types of oil. pick a brand and stick with it. if you want to go heavy in summer and lighter in winter thats your choice but thats why they have multigrade oils.

 

And PLEASE for your cars well being run a decent oil filter. there was a recent discussion on filters that was verry informative.

 

the price differance between a good oil change and a crappy one is about the same as a 6pack.

so you can have a couple of beers and add to your beer gut:drunk:

 

or you could add many more miles to your sube before needing a motor changed.

 

hmmmm... I like beer but I like keep my cars running well better.

with oil you do get what you pay for. although all the oils on the shelf should have the starburst and the donut, if they don't, don't run them ever. name brand oils will surpass the standards as opposed to just reaching them. i would also reccomend using the oil viscosity that was reccomended from the factory unless you are burning mass oil, when you run a thicker oil it takes longer for the oil to make it to the moving parts, this adds dramatically to the wear that your engine experiences.

 

I run castrol and FHI filters, thats what it got from the factory and thats what she seems to run best with
