GL or GL-10?

Recommended Posts

Theres tons of little things that are different.. its a trim package.. nicer seats, digidash.. the 4wd ones had black doorhandles and stuff.. A lot (not all) of them were turbos..Rear headrests.. trip computer.. some were 2wd, some were 4wd..

There was a really long detailed thread about this a while back.. you might be able to find it with a search

Preface: Everything I know applies to later model (EA82) GL-10s only

That being said, I just wanted to point out a few things on Skips Fairly complete list.

Not All GL-10s had black door handles. That was 4WD only.

2WD GL-10 only had front mudflaps

Many 4WD GL-10s only had rear mudflaps

Some Later models(87-up) were SPFI

Of the 8 I have seen(3 of which were mine) only one had the rear swaybar(my current one).. one was 86, 7 were 87-up

So as you can see, many of the GL-10 'options' were variable.

That's all well and good, but the real question is what are the differences between a DL and a DL-5? LOL.

A lot of the things you guys mentioned are EA82 specific. GL-10's did exist in the EA81's as well.

Also, it should be mentioned that every single option that was availible for a GL-10, could also be put on a GL. My 84 wagon was just a GL, but had A/C, cruise, PW, Digi-dash, center arm rest etc..... all options associated with the GL-10.

So the real differences depend entirely on *which* GL your talking about. It could mean a ton of differences, or it actually could mean nothing at all. I think I heard one time that if you priced it all out, you could actually end up with a more expensive, more decked out GL if you ordered all the options, than what a GL-10 would have been.....

I have a 87 turbowagon that says by the VIN number that it is a GL Turbo not GL10. My rear gate has the GL10 logo on it. I have, digi dash, height adjustable seats, black door handles, trip computer, rear seat w/ head restraints, power moon roof, cloth seats, front and rear doorguards, AC, rear discs, NO centerconsole with arm rest, NO rear antisway bars, NO LSD. It is a 5 spd single range. What the hell is my car!!!!!

Your car is a mutt!

No, seriously , its a GL-10

And GD, I know that what I said was EA82 specific.. it even says so in the first line of my second post... For the most part, I dislike EA81 cars, so most of my efforts have been put toward EA82 cars.

I know - I was just offering what I know - and that's EA81's - cause I don't like EA82's:moon:.

At any rate - my point was that there is no hard and fast rule. GL-10's came with different stuff every year. LSD's were never a GL-10 option except on 89 full time 4WD 5 speed turbo's. Same with rear sway's - not a GL-10 option, but sometimes came on GL-10's. Also sometimes came on GL Turbo's. Same with LSD's - they were an option you could ask for on any car.

Generally, 4WD turbo's had rear discs - that wasn't a premium option, it was standard for a lot of years. 2WD Turbo..... not sure on that one. Might have been an XT thing or something.

The Scooby: Those were "options" on your car. Sure - they are factory, but Skip was talking about "standard" equipment for a GL vs. GL-10. Not optional equipment.

Gentleman, your cars MAY very well have options either added during purchase or after.

This discussion is for the factory package, not some optioned up vehicle you happen to own, please read the original question.

Granted my list may not be accurate but just because you have cloth headliner in a GL - I question though, cloth seats yes, not velour - look at a GL-10 of your year before saying "not true".
