77 nautique
Ok, so here's my situation. I bought a '99 Outback wagon automatic with a bad engine (bad gaskets, bent valves, rotted oil pan, etc.) Anyway, I acquired a perfectly good running 95 Outback manual trans car with low miles, new timing belt and oil pan. Before I started this swap I did a little research on this and saw that what I really wanted was a 95 auto car because of the EGR issue but since I already had a free engine I figured I would cross that bridge when I got to it. Well I'm at the bridge. As expected I got the egr circut malfunction code. I slaved in the egr solenoid and all seemed well for a few miles than I got the egr flow malfunction code. Upon more research (which is sort of limited because the only time I can find to surf the web is here at work on my phone...he,he) I found that if I grounded pin #81 on the ECM it would make it think its a manual and wouldn't look for a egr. I tried that the other night and it seemed to work but than I got the P1507 code which from what I understand is because the computer thinks the transmission is in neutral because there is no neutral switch hooked up. So this is where I'm at. I'm sure someone here has figured this out. Am I almost there yet? Thanks, Jeff.
idosubaru
Actually someone has not figured this out yet. Sounds like you're doing good with it though to make it this far. You figured out the pin for the manual designation pin to the ECU can you check the circuit out for the neutral switch?
77 nautique
Yea, that was my next step. I was just hoping someone already did my homework for me! Something like "oh yea...snip the yellow and red wire at pin 52 and you will be all set" for example would have made my day. Well off to the schematic's I go... idosubaru
yeah, i've been thinking about diving into mine but with no emissions or inspections requirements I don't really care about the CEL on my swapped non-EGR motor, but I have thought about trying to deal with it. bartw_portland
please do post your results. i've a 97 outback w/ 5spd man trans running with a 95ej22 and am getting the P0400 Exhaust Gas Recirculation Flow Malfunction cel. I have a bit of surging on lower rpm acceleration but want to concentrate on getting rid of the cel to start. thanks, brent
