  1. Yes Zett; Congratulations !!! I knew you would locate Subaru People nearby, we are everywhere! Hiding in the bushes... Subaru's go there, fords get stuck... Sounds like you found just the right shop nearby . I knew there would be one. Be sure to post later in the summer with pictures of your new outback! As Heartless said, WELCOME to the family ! (even if !)

  2. Subaru's go there, fords get stuck. That made me laugh! I do feel like I'm already in the family. Heh. I do have one bit of Subie history, I had a (I think) 89-90 Loyale wagon over 10 years ago, and even though this car was pre-AWD, I did love that car. It was so handy. Much easier for a short woman to load than a pickup truck. I drove it about a year or two then sold it to my aforementioned neighbors very cheap and they drove it for another year or so.

  3. One of my least thought about repair jobs. Saw the problem, grabbed a few bits and tools and into it. Cold chisel to belt out on the flange.... drilled 8.5 mm hole, think it was the 28 you bspt tap and screwed in the 45° elbow. Just needs a short barb to finish the job off....and just hope it clears the inlet manifolds underbelly

  4. What is "VFD" standing for in this case? If other illumination on the same panel works and dims then I would agree it's likely not wiring. I've seen plenty of cracked solder joints on circuit boards - especially ones with buttons and controls. 05-09 Legacy radio/HVAC panels are garbage and prone to this sort of problem. MAP light assemblies also. I would get out my handheld microscope and start looking for cracked joints that I can reflow. GD

  6. Ok... watched video on dumping sea foam into IAC valve hose, still in place on motor, to clean. Did, sounded better, but idle still surging especially when under load.. fan, AC, lights..... but WTF... there is an adjustment possible on IAC valve! So I simply opened the valve a few degrees until the idle smoothed out under load. It seems to idle a tiny bit high under a no load condition, I might adjust after this settles in for a bit....... ANYBODY KNOWS WHY THIS ISNT A GOOD IDEA, please let me know! I don’t want to over heat motor with too lean mixture, or whatever else I’m about to mess up! so far though, the feeling of another subie conquered is FANTASTIC! Thanks you all for your advice as I stumbled through this. SUBARU!

  7. maybe an injector is leaking? just seems like it's behavior is pointing to rich idle. or, IACV is closed too much ?

  9. I talked to the guy that I see all the time at the local burger joint who has a Subaru. Right off the bat he gave me the name of a guy who works on Subarus (who was also recommended by a local garage that has a good reputation). I found this man (he has a junkyard/body shop) and he has 4 Subs (that I saw) in various stages of repair at the moment. It was raining on us and I was on my way home from the vet with my cat, so I didn't talk to him long, but he sounds like Montana Tom upthread. He had a beautiful silver OB in the repair bay he's asking 3500 for right now - so assuming he can keep Subs in stock, I should be good to go once I have the money saved up. My neighbors had bought a fixed up non-Subaru from this guy and it's been a jewel of a car - I have to borrow it sometimes when my#$^*% truck tears up. I had been peeking at this guy's place when I would drive by, but I didn't see any Subies on his lot. Thank you all for the push to go up to people and ask...who knew I'd find someone this close by and so easily? Of course I will carefully check over any car he has for sale...but I have faith in the 'hillbilly grapevine" especially when it comes to the guys at the burger joint...I've been talking to them off and on for the last year or so; they strike me as the kind of fellas that would look out for a woman in need of help and not lie to me about stuff. If they say he's good, I believe them.

  10. well its been some time since the last post. Weathers been a bugger. But now at last thing are moving forward, Check it out As you can see the front and rear guards are almost done. Still have the front right to do. Got new Rims & wheels, 18" 235 offset 35. Got some Advan race tyres of a friend of mine who races in the NZ v8 ute series for $50 each. He gets new tyres all the time so he has always got some in various states of life, but for mock up these are fine. Thinking of fitting running boards. Have made some cardboard one's and they don't look to bad. And yes the engine is in place. Almost room for a boxer 6. I think about 150mm to fire wall, of the top of my head. Still have to make rear gearbox mount, but have a plan in place for that. But starting to look good. enjoy

  11. I have a 2002 Forester with the 2.5 that has just over 240,500 miles on it now.. it did have the headgaskets done long before I got it (were done around 180K according to the carfax report) I bought it at 206K. Car runs great. With good care and maintenance they can go a long time, making them quite economical vehicles.
