  1. 1. Yes, if you plan to replace the ENTIRE harness, it MIGHT work. 2. You likely will have wiring, sensor and all kinds of other headaches. Have you been doing swaps for years and can do it in your sleep?Although everything should bolt together, the wiring is way different, both ON THE ENGINE, ON THE TRANSMISSION and between the ECU, TCU (trans computer), and DASH harness. 3. Likely won't pass emissions testing. 4. Likely will not run correctly. 5. It's just a bad idea. 6. Main issue is you're 'crossing phases'. '96 is a Phase 1 Subaru electronics; '04 is Phase 2.

  2. I replaced the tensioners, guides and chains. ~2k mi and so far so good. (5 hrs at 90 mph cruising since I forgot about the time zone one hour loss on a trip I was making. Thank goodness for 80 mph speed limits). Haven't heard any more chain rattle sounds. After the repair I did an engine flush and dropped the pan and cleaned it out. Some sludge in the low spot around the magnet, but didn't see anything concerning.

  3. No it's just a single core in there. The flapper door system I suspect is setup for dual climate control though and you may have an actuator that is failing to respond to the HVAC controls or the HVAC controls are not telling the actuator to move. It's got to be a problem with misdirected airflow. Either something is stuck, or an actuator isn't moving. These cars have pretty complex actuator systems for the HVAC. It's honestly a total nightmare even at the dealer level. And about 75% of the time it's the HVAC control panel itself that's to blame as they have a high rate of solder joint failure on the circuit board. The best fix I have seen is to replace the entire unit with the JDM one that also allows a normal DIN stereo installation. So then you can have bluetooth and so forth as well. GD

  5. Got a little more of the story from the girlfriend this weekend. About a year ago she smelled a burned oil smell and took the car to the dealer where they told her it was very low on oil. After that the car started using more oil. Sounds like she might have messed up more than the rings. Looks like new short blocks can be had for $1700, so..... Probably going to have her get the new short block, gaskets, center diff, and timing set and I'll spend some quality time with her car while she drives my 99 Outback.... I needed a new clutch anyway . Thanks for all the input and advice guys!

  6. The story of Inital D, a japanese Manga. A young boy drifts his AE86 for sport and while doing deliveries. The story comes to a close when his father beats him at his own game in a first gen wrx.

  9. I found another picture of it. http://www.nc4x4.com/forums/showthread.php?t=43345 http://forum.planetisuzoo.com/viewtopic.php?t=21330&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=25 There are some videos in both of those threads, but I'm not sure if any of them have the Subaru in them. Someone with more time than me will have to check 'em out. Apparently, it was entered in an off-road 4x4 competition and came in "not last". But that's also ahead of all the vehicles that didn't finish, so "not last" is actually pretty good.

  11. Dang. I finally got to drive a friends FR-S yesterday and I was thoroughly impressed with the perfect power and handling combination. He has 20000 miles on it and has never had a problem since the day he drove it off the lot with 8 miles on it. Seems like a solid car to me.
