  1. Never worked on a carbed EA, but it looks like the wires for an electric choke. They have a coil inside that heats up with 12v, and it opens the choke as it heats up. That way the choke stays on longer in the cold, and shorter in the heat. Also you get no choke on hot starts.

  3. In a way I take a certain pride when I pull apart my builds. Built this in 2008 , 40 thou oversize slugs boxed as EA71,EA81,EA82 one size fits all "compromise" pistons 20/60 0.235" lift cam , solid lifters Ran it in on petrol mostly highway driving varying speed to bed the rings and bore together. Then dedicated propane via , eventually, a bigger bore EA82 spfi intake and EA82 carb y pipe. Over about 9 years , 120,000 km, mostly hard work towing a trailer and loads. Finally popped a gill and gave me a lot of buttermilk only in PCV system, think I got a lot of blow by as well. Oil and filter changes every 10,000 km Want to pull it's still shiny slugs out to inspect rings and bore

  4. If the MAF is bad, the car will drive normal with it unplugged. Check for a plugged exhaust. GD

  5. Also not to mention the bearings are sealed. The weep hole goes between the 2 sets of bearings. So dirt and grime getting into the weep hole dose nothing for the bearings unless the bearings are already shot. The weep hole let's you know the water seal has failed and water is being pushed though the seals on the inner bearing. Only way they would be failing at 20K is if you had a bad fan or v belt causing vibration. The weep hole would have nothing to do with that.

  6. Looks super good mate! Typical of a LPG fed engine. M&D’s classic Range Rover did 460,000 km on gas, it’s first 40,000 km on petrol. Was pulled down at this point (500,000km). The specialist pulling it down had some others in the industry visiting that couldn’t believe the engine had done the half million kms. It needed a new timing chain kit and a cam as this had worn out of spec. Everything else was good. After the rebuild it did another +200,000km before the vehicle was retired. Drivetrain was good, the body was falling apart, interior mainly (other than crap paint!), suspension needed renewing. This thing did loads of towing to horse events and totalled 11 roos in its time. The bull bar certainly saved it many times. Goes to show how clean gas is to run with. It’s all good until you run out of it and don’t have petrol on board to flick over to... worse if you run dedicated LPgas! Cheers Bennie

  7. I saw that comment and didn’t respond because it’s not true. Something is off, probably not intentionally. It is anecdotal, mis-remembering, miscommunication, or some inaccurate assumptions were made. This happens *all the time*. Its so common Occams Razor can’t be ignored. If I heard a dealer say that I would assume I misheard, someone misspoke, the tech is wrong, or one dealer on the globe has some crack pot scheme to sell more services that no other dealer is doing.

  8. I’ve got new struts in the garage so I’ll install those this week. They said “the struts are fine, they’re not leaking, but that one needs replaced”. I should have asked the tech what that means. I talked to the counter guy and was trying to give them the benefit of the doubt. I think they’re OEM and no visual issues. I had them off this summer. They definitely perform poorly - harsh bangs on bumps.

  9. Most newer alignment machines show them all the adjustments. If they can read, they should be able to find them. Might want to consider a different shop.

  10. I have done nearly 700,000 km in EA Subarus and three water pumps. Not thinking of replacing them at that recommended interval !

  12. Actually I thought of alternators too. I had it fail on two different Subaru’s in the same year (both were close to home luckily) I replaced both Denso remanufactured since Denso makes OEM parts so hoping they are good
