  1. get an oem subaru one from an ej. it fits if you slightly shave off the outside of it. best mod. aftermarket ones are poopoo. recently i tested what looked to be the best aftermarket one id ever seen... till i tested it agenst a stock one.... oem one opened faster at the right temp, and stayed open compared to the aftermarket that only opened a few mm and then promptly shut when i removed it from the burner... the oem one stayed open till it hit its rated temp, then went to about 50% open till about 10 degrees below the rated temp and then closed...

  2. Thanks for all the comments and suggestions, Pretty much the same as my old 99 2.2L. Finished the job yesterday, got the parts from Subaru Superstore in Chandler AZ. Total cost with shipping was $476.10, Belt, Tensioner, Pulleys, Thermostat, Water Pump and Gaskets. Locally would have been $682.54, they did send the wrong water pump so a $95.73 pump went up to $139.95, had to go get that locally in the Springs to complete the job. Someone had been in there before, the pump gasket was paper not metal like Subie uses and one of the clamps on the bypass hose was on the hose, just not over the nipple part coming off the pump, not sure if the T-Belt was done but it is now. New timing belt and pulleys, water pump, thermostat, hoses, coolant, fan belt, oil change, filters - she is good to go.

  3. Seems unlikely that all the distributors would be bad. So I'm going to assume that's not the problem. You have a new coil, plugs and wires.... what about the wire between the coil and the distributor ? A weak spark from the plugs or a weak spark from the coil ? There's some specific tests outlined here chapter 9 troubleshooting for coil/plugs/ distributor.   4. My late model Omega actually came factory with 6.5" speakers in the front, with a plastic adapter ring/spacer. My aftermarket Sony speakers just bolted straight up!

  5. The engine makes about 175 brake HP. That's from a 2.5L 4 valve-per-cylinder engine. Scale that up - that's the equivalent of a 5.0 (302) Mustang making 350 brake HP - the Fox Body era 302 made between 245 and 300 HP in stock form. On those it's common to change the exhaust and cam and get up to around 350..... as you can see the Subaru engine is basically already there. You have only 14.7 psi at sea level to push air into the engine..... the little 2.5 is about as volumetrically efficient as it's going to get (well above 90% at WOT). Thus gains to be had are minimal and VERY expensive. Cams could move the power up in the RPM range and you might show an increase in brake HP - probably wouldn't be able to feel it. You would have to tune the computer to take advantage (more cost) and the higher RPM wouldn't be accounted for in the transmission or rear end gearing limiting it's use. To turbocharge an NA model is going to start at about $20,000 to have it done at a shop. Vastly easier and more economical to just buy a turbo model of the same chassis. But honestly the turbo 05/06 OBXT is a pile of dung. They had severe reliability problems unless upgraded at huge expense. The NA models aren't much better - being early CANBUS cars they have..... problems. GD

  6. I installed 6½" Speakers in all four doors, but to substitute the crappy 4" in the front doors, I had to install the bigger ones on the Plastic of the door cards, not directly on the door itself. Kind Regards.

  8. There is no additional performance to be had. They are already as volumetrically efficient as they are going to get. GD
