  1. I was looking at a really nice Brat a long time ago at a used car dealer. I took oil cap off and checked oil with dip stick and both were milk shake. Dealer really came down a bunch. I drove it home about 30 miles and rechecked and it was much better. I got in and drove it a lot more and the milk shake dissapeared. I drove that Brat several years with no problem with water in oil.
  2. The port that goes to the condensor is the high side, the one that comes from the evaporator is the low side. You really do need gauges just as a doctor needs one to take your blood pressure.
  3. Well I'm not close to North Carolina. The good news, I found the problem, It was the crankshaft pulley loose. It runs just a quit as a mouse now. I've never had a car with this many miles. The thing is less than a quart low when I change oil and filter @ every 3,000 miles, amaging. If Tx. isn't too far for you to come, there is a running Justy for 350.00 near me. He said it run good but used oil and had 150,00. I called him about it when I thought mine had died. I think it was also a 93. L.D.
  4. I think you are right about damage done once you hear the knock. You know there must have a little play with it running for a while causing a lot of ware before it got bad enough to really hear it. I remembered when I bought the car there was a manual and I found it. That oil pump will not be easy to get to. After reading it, it would be a waste to go to that much trouble without replacing water pump along with several things that has to have a lot of ware that is hid in the engine. I just think it is ready to junk out. I bought it in 2001 with 67,000 miles. Sure wish I could run across another just like it was when I bought it. I would get it in hart beat. L.D.
  5. I've worked on lots of engines, but never a Justy, oh I put timing belt on it over 50,000 miles ago, but that is all exterior, Now where is the oil pump?, have to pull engine? Would it do anygood in troubleshooting to put a oil presure quage on and see what oil pressure is? if so what should it be? With that many miles I don't want to spend much money or time because it could really throw craps any time. L.D.
  6. I have a 93 Justy with 148,000 miles. It just started knocking and it sounds kinda like a rod except when you start moving and get 10mph or better it goes away. Sounds like it might be coming from rear of engine, closest to fire wall. Oil pressure light doesn't come on and it is working. I can't see any metal shavings in oil. Now this knock really sound bad and it is loud. It isn't the ac compressor. The car runs good and uses no oil between its 3,000 mile changes. Sure seems strange this knock goes away with a little speed. L.D.
  7. goward71 has a 79 Brat for sale over at marketplace. He says dash ac unit has been removed by PO. Does the 1st. gen Brat ac have an under dash unit with evaporator, blower and controls all in one unit hanging under dash that were dealer or aftermarket installed. Or does it have the unit all up high under dash and is part of the heater. Either way does anyone have one for sale. L.D.
  8. I hauled it home. Looked under the hood and a vacuum line was lose. I thought hummm that can't be the problem. Pluged the line in and it runs fine. The check engine also went out. I haven't took it out yet other than back and forth in the drive way. In the attached photo just to the left of where I typed "problem" is where the vacuum line plugs in. What is that? L.D.
  9. 93 Subaru Justy 122,000 miles and it has been running good. My wife was driving it and it was running good. She parked it and when she came out about in an hour it would start and die several times. After a few trys it would start and idle but would die when she tried to go. She could never make it go and she noticed the check engine light is on. What do I need to check when I go get it? I have posted this on the Justy board also L.D.
  10. Yea, It looks like it won't be fun. Think I'll jus wait till it leaks worse.
  11. I posted this to a Justy forum. Not much activity there. So here goes here. My 93 justy is leaking just a little water at times. I can see a little drip from underneath on what I think is the water pump. My Chiltons tell you how to remove the water pump but it tells it like you already know how and are just wanting a refresher. Has anyone got a good picture break down and instructions they could scan and send or post somewhere for everybody to use. From the little my book shows it looks like it might be a bugger to get to. L.D.
  12. Is the Justy water pump behind the timing belt cover and driven by the timing belt?. If so, I bet that rascal would be a bugger to change.
  13. 93 Justy 2wd. Going down the road under acceleration it feels like the wheels are out of balance (bouncing). Let off the gas it is smooth, ad gas and vibrates or bounces again. This just started about 2.000 miles ago and is getting worse. Both CV axles were replaced about 4,000 miles ago and there is no noise. I noticed the top engine mount is bad and the rubber is tore. Recon that could have anything to do with it? I think I will have balance checked. However I would think if out of balance they would vibrate at a certain speed where under acceleration or not. Anyone's thoughts?
  14. I ran across and old 360 the other day. Didn't find out about the price cause I didn't about know parts. Is there a supply somewhere? With the cost of restoring would a 360 be worth fixing as a good daily driver? I ran across it looking for an Isetta. Does anyone happen to know where an Isetta is, I sure would like one. An Isetta is definitely worth fixing up because of its value as good driver. I've seen some cars where you can't get your money back if you wanted after fixing. Is a 360 that way? L.D.
  15. I'm no pro. The kit will work but you need more than the kit. If your compressor has gone bad, did it make metal? If so you need to to flush the system. If it didn't make metal or get other trash in the system, at the very least you need to vacuum the system. Would be better to change the drier also.
