You might want to try EBay as well. There's a guy on there that sells pumps for EA82's pretty cheap.

When was the last time it had a tune-up? Was the old pump dead or just loud? They can be working fine and still be pretty loud.

For the past 3-4 years I've been keeping consistent track of my mileage. I use the same pump at the same station about 98% of the time to rule out differences there. It only changes when it needs a tune-up or something takes a dump (i.e. oxy sen). Highway: 30-32 mpg City: 19-21 mpg -

You might want to give the CTS (coolant temp. sensor) a look-see. I had one with a bad connection where the wires go into the sensor and it would intermittently surge. -

Be advised if your going to buy a new one that they call it by a different name for an 87. They call it an "air charge temperature sensor", I suppose because it controls how much air is let in by the IAC. Like these - http://www.partsamerica.com/ProductDetail.aspx?mfrcode=GPS&mfrpartnumber=385029&parttype=290&ptset=A I used the one for the Turbo since it was cheaper and I wasn't aware that it had a different name at the time. It's worked fine so far. -

Don't try to pull those wires out of the sensor. They're not removable. -
If you loosen it up all the way and it still catches, check to make sure the hill holder mechanism isn't sticking and the spring is attached of course. Usually the proper adjustment is where you can just see a little light between the springs coils. Maybe the cable is sticking. Make sure it dosen't have any kinks or harsh bends in it.

So that's where it went. My old link to it didn't work last time I tried it. Good find. I got lucky and scored a complete set of manuals for my 87 for $10 on ebay last month. -
If it's a Cali car then I'm pretty sure it's the second cat. At least it is in my 87.

My mounts appear fine too. My 4wd hi/lo selector has a shatload of movement in it when accelerating/decelerating. It's tight when you throw it in 4wd and it's being braced by the rear though. I've been putting it off for a while, but I just can't stand the slop anymore personally.
