  1. here is more info on what I discovered driving some 2006 cars. This applies to both at and mt trannys. I drove an 06 2.5i auto and a 06 2.5i 5 speed. and have figured out what is different about the 2006 cars. When driveing down hill in a 2006 car, mt or at, the cruise does not let the throttle come all of the way off. It holds the throttle open at about 5%. So on the same long down hill road my 05 lets the throttle off completely and the engine compression starts to slow the car to hold say 60 mph. When it hits 59.5 mph the cruise starts making rapid stabs to bump it back to 60 again and so forth. The 06 cars instead of thottleing back completely hold just a little gas on at all times thus the car on the same hill slowly accelerates down the hill but very smoothly. The end result is the 2005 car hits the bottom of the hill at 60 mph bucking between throttle off and on all the way down but holds speed well. The 2006 cars hit the bottom of the very same hill at 80 mph but the throttle never moved the whole way down . It remained slightly open with the instant mpg reading at 75 mpg where as my 05 instant mpg reads 99.9 inicating the trottle is closed. If the hill would have been longer I am sure I would have hit 100 mph in either of the 2006 cars. So if you want a smooth cruise that will not hold speed downhill buy an 06. Either way you have to turn the cruise off or you either buck and snort or speed down hills.
  2. I just got my computor back today but it did not fix the surge down hill problem. I am bummed. Then I see gmorgan on the subary legacy forum just got his computor done and this is what he said. I just can not quite figure out what the heck is going on. ------------------------------------------------------------ Quote "It is finally fixed. Took back to Subaru and here is what they did: Update(s): P2097, surge downhill while cruise control is operating You might want to contact your local dealer to see you can get this most recent update."
  3. Ok here is the latest. My dealer read the Pilgrim post and called tech support. The said that the have a new revised flash update that was for the cars with cruise that disengaged but it appears to work for the surging cruise as wll. That must be the flash Pilgrim got on his car around thanksgiving. They are going to do it to my car but because of the holidays we are going to wait until Jan 2 and I should have and answer by Jan 4 or 5 Mark I will get tsb number
  4. Had to put in my 2 cents. Yes the 2005 2.5 does have 2 different cruise problems. Many many people have these problems. 1 surging downhill 2 cutting out. Subaru has a fix for the cut out problem. Dealer sends computer to reprogram it. They DO NOT have a fix for the surging cruise. And NO, it is not right to have a surging cruise control. I believe if enough people go to the dealer and complain, eventually subaru will be forced to redo the cruise software and provide a fix. I CAN be fixed. It reminds me of the Airbus when it first came out with fly by wire throttles. The test pilot at the Paris Air Show was killed when he pushed the throttles up and the computer overrode him because it thought he would over stess the airplane. As a result he flew into a forest. They did fix that problem. It is the software folks. It's the software. COMPLAIN to your dealer.
  5. I have played a lot with batteries and read alot. Never let em go below about 75%. They start sulfating as soon as you park it. If not being used, charge every month. I have had the very best longevity from Delco batteries. They cost a bit more but the are bullit proof.
  6. read this been using them for years TRASKO Questions & Answers1039 1. Trasko in Brief: The Trasko Refining Unit came about when the Govt. officials of the Tokyo metropolis started exploring the possibilities of improving the maintenance of their vehicles for increasing their longevity and reducing environmental impacts. In 1985 the Trasko-Bee Corporation in a joint venture with the Subaru Motor Corporation in Japan introduced this refining unit and won an award from the Mayor of Tokyo. The manufacturing premises were expanded to establish The Trasko-Korea Co. Ltd. August 1998, LOFMR introduces the Trasko Ultra-Fine Unit for the first time and makes it available both for fleet and individual use. 2. How is the Trasko Oil Filter different from any other systems? The Trasko unit consists of a reusable canister with built-in 36 cooling fins. Trasko traps particles by lateral dispersion. The special filter element composed of kiln-dried paper has a fine porosity that traps fine particles from flowing oil while dispersing through its permeable layers. The special pressure relief valve-nut actuates when there is a pressure build-up or a surge. The valve then redirects or bypasses the oil to circulate through the 8-10 micron mesh (The critical pressure for setting itself into a bypass mode is between 8-16 psi at the relief valve and output pressure 85-90 psi from a typical vehicle's oil pump). Thus regulating a constant pressure differential in the range of an Input/Output of 1.00 : 0.89 (i.e if the input pressure was 80 psi the output pressure from the Trasko is 71.20 psi, this slight pressure drop is actually needed so that a small flow of oil is directed through the paper filter media). When flow is least restrictive the absolute particle rating efficiency is less than a micron. Upon relief actuation the secondary efficiency is still between 8-10 microns. An efficiency rating still higher than any stock type full-flow filters. The Trasko is a hybrid filter, conditionally set as full-flow oil system for any engine and changes itself into the bypass mode when it experiences a pressure above its critical range. Regular shunt market filters are designed full flow only and if they do have a bypass valve then their bypass is without a guard and the oil flows without any filtration. The Trasko can be used also as a bypass unit, if you prefer to install it along with a regular filter on a dual remote mount. The Trasko is a highly recommended product for diesel applications as well.. See some Spot Tests.
  7. Does anybody know what this is about? I is a service bulletin on Subarus web site. 2005 outback 2.5i
  8. I just read my 2005 2.5i owners manual and the are still requiring the coolant additive be put in. Is the the same additive as used in 99-02? It was not recommeded..........it is REQUIRED
