  1. Thanks to this thread and the recommendation of the harbor freight tool kit I got the front wheel bearing of my 98 Legacy GT replaced Here are part nos. of the seals and snap ring (Genuine Subaru): Inner Seal: 28015AA080 Outer Seal: 28015AA070 Snap Ring: 28035AA010
  2. I just had this code on my Leggy with EJ22, it was a torn EGR diaphragm Replaced with a used junkyard part and all's good
  3. First time attempting a EJ25 HG replacement on a 1998 Leggy GT. Amateur mistake I made was not labeling the valve shim/buckets when removing. I guess my next move is to replace the buckets randomly, check clearances, then replace shims as necessary? Thoughts anyone?
  4. Well, the motor is already out, so tranny is coming out too. PO claimed that he had replaced the HG on the EJ25 but it was still bubbling the coolant in the expansion bottle and car keeps overheating even with thermostat removed. So a 95 EJ22 is getting shoehorned in!
  5. Pulled the diff dipstick today and it was almost to the brim with ATF! I guess the tranny has blown a seal into the front diff....time for powertrain removal!
  6. Thanks for the info! When the car was bought last Dec, the PO said he hit a pothole and the tranny fluid leaked badly. Then it stopped leaking, so my buddy bought it cheap but didn't drive it much. Maybe about 100 miles put into it since without tranny leaks till tonight. Will be draining the front diff tomorrow to see if there is ATF in it.
  7. So buddy of mine with a 99 Leggy GT called me this evening with an emergency, tranny was literally pouring out of the tranny! He left a puddle in his driveway, a trail of ATF out of his cul-de-sac then another puddle while waiting to turn around to limp it back home. Gut feel is he lost 1 - 2 qts during this episode. He says that the front diff dipstick was blown loose and ATF was blowing out of there. My first thought is could it be a vent tube in that area? And the diff dipstick was just loose from a previous check? But what is the worst case? Could any seal between the tranny and front diff be blown such that ATF is pushed into the front diff? He sent me this picture:
  8. OEM or Koyo brand I personally replaced the original radiator in my 97 OBS with a Koyo unit bought from ebay back in 2008 and so far so good
  9. How about Amazon? As far as reputed online sellers go, they can definitely be trusted. http://www.amazon.com/TYC-7430031-Passenger-Non-Heated-Replacement/dp/B002P8JWNG/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1324593741&sr=8-7 This mirror is not painted though so either live with a black mirror or have a body shop paint it before installation.
  10. Previous owner claimed to have the headgasket replaced by a "friend", he left the headgasket kit packaging in the car. Anticipating a botched HG job I did a combustion gas test of the cooling system, stuck the gauge in the expansion bottle, pumped and the test fluid remained blue. Forgot to mention that the ATF levels have been dropping during two short (<5 miles) drives I had done since purchasing the car :-\ Will check both ATF and oil again for signs of moisture That being said, if it is indeed a botched HG job I'm not even going to wongleflute around with in, will just shoehorn a used EJ22 from a 95 into it
  11. So last night I was looking into the coolant expansion tank of the recently acquired 98 Leggy GT. The coolant was bubbling and looks frothy (err....like the foamed milk on top of a latte?). Is that a sign of the ATF cooler leaking into the coolant passages? If so, what are the odds the coolant is leaking into the ATF (and tranny) as well? Thanks
  12. Thanks to this thread and its info no Trans-X, my 99 Forester's forward engagement delay has been solved! it engages within couple of seconds compared to it not engaging after sitting for minutes or having to rev it to engage.
  13. I was looking at car-part.com and it lists the 99 EJ22 separate from 00/01 EJ22s. Are there differences within the EJ22 Phase 2 family? P.S. I need a replacement EJ22 for my 1999 OBS.
  14. Let's Frankenmotor the OBS! (1999) So let's say I was to reuse my EJ22 Ph2 heads and toss in a EJ25 short block, which EJ25 variant will bolts up to a 99 5MT (originally with the EJ22 Ph2)?
