  1. To All, I do apologise to this forum for my lack of confidence in the ability of the people that contribute to this forum. Nipper has actually solved a problem without responding to my problem. In an earlier thread he fixed the problem for someone else. I just used his instructions. I'm sorry I'f I offended anyone, that was not my intention. this site has always been informative & usefull, again I'f I offended anyone I am sorry it was not my intention.
  2. Hate to sound unappreciative and/or stupid, but wouldn't the crank sensor show up as a code #11 & the cam sensor show up as a code #13 on the scan, if there was/is a problem with those sensors they should show up on the scan, this is only an asumption on my part, I dont know. The battery was replaced one day prior & the IACV was cleaned at the same time, the only code showing on the scan was #24 which is the IACV, I'm still lost & don't know where to turn. Again im still assuming that a problem with the IACV would cause a bad idle but not a no spark condition.I'm still lost, and still need help.
  3. Are there any other help web sites for subaru's, this site has been no help at all.
  4. I have a no spark problem. nipper thanks for the input, but it is still an electrical problem of which I dont know how to solve. The gas guage shows 1/2 full so thats out of the equation, the no spark was confirmed by an old used spark plug cleaned & tested on a different system(worked) & a commercially available spark tester. Yes I am a shadetree mechanic this is a forum that is supposed to help...help me please!
  5. Per the Chiltons book tested and/or replaced both the coil pack & ignitor module, no help. Checked the computer, it has a code #24 (air control valve). Which air control valve is it? At the coil pack I have 12v with key on at input wires #1,2&3, 4v with key off. The other tests chilton recommended were spark plug out resistance (ohms 1 to 2 test & 3 to 4 test, both were 0 ohms (O.L.) on the meter. The other test was input wire #1 to #2 wire (1 ohm) & #2 wire to #3 wire (1 ohm). My prior experience with mass air flow sensors have always been it will start but then immediately shutdown. I'm lost & I need your help!!!
  6. Mr. Legacy 777 & Mr. WAWalker, Thanks for your replies, L777 your site is where I found the procedure to check for codes, however I didnt really read the paperwork enough to discover that both procedures were included, sorry if I posted early. Dont get to see the car till saturday, so no codes yet. WAW your explination is exactly right. Premature (again) but I have seen threads that show? that the c/t/sensor may be the cause. There is no CE/light illuminated. Sorry about the ford terminoligy but thats all I know. Keep the info coming,THANKS!!
  7. I have posted here before & i'd like to thank you all for your help. Current problem is/was erratic idle, initialy he (my teenage nephew) came over because of that. I disconnected a lower hose from the intake tube & sprayed c/cleaner into it it worked fine for a few days (turns out the hose i disconnected was the inlet hose for the IACV, so we have a backflushed IACV). Damn me i'm a ford mechanic,(it looked like a EGR valve to me) didnt know any better. Anyway now we have a problem of intermittant no start/dies with no notice. Did i mess up something or could it be multiple problems. Searching this site i have found a KOEO procedure & codes, was just wondering if there is also a KOER link or even if its necessary? Also many people have brought-up the coolant temp sensor on previous threads. Any and all ideas will be considered. Just give me your help! THANKS!!!
  8. Is there an idle air control valve on a 2.2 engine that is removable & cleanable? I'm used to fords 2 bolts & a plug spray clean then reinstall. My nephew says his wont stay idling when cold. Any tips would be appreciated!!!
  9. Died. When car was bought about 3months ago it only did about 1/3rd of what it should have. Went to a parts house link that someone posted earlier (thank you-by the way). They list a L&R wiper transmission (pricey parts), i'm used to fords where all they have is a rod that goes from the motor to closest wiper & another that connects to the next wiper, what do i have to look out for??? Any tips, advice or suggestions would be appreciated!!
  10. Just found this site earlier today, since my nephew recently got a '91 legacy for his 18th birthday (compliments of his mom & me), & so far we've done front brakes, engine change & starter change. Since i've never worked on a subaru untill just recently, I figured I better signup for assistance. So howdy y'all. By the way i'll be back shortly with another post regarding w/wipers
