  1. I had the same problem in my 97 Legacy GT wagon, and it turned out to be the gasket where the fuel pump assembly went into the tank. I had the fuel pump replaced and they somehow managed to not line up the gasket. It took about 6 months before it became noticeable. There were no visible leaks and the fuel smell seemed to be coming from the front of the car. My Subie mechanic jacked it up to a rediculous sideways angle after I filled the tank and we watched the fuel spill out from the top of the tank. Took more time to find the problem than to fix it.
  2. That is for 2000 up. He has a 96. I have been looking for those for my 97 GT wagon for a long time. Ebay, JDM is the best bet I think.
  3. Ken, Where do you find the water coming in? I had a puddle in the passenger side floor of my 97 Legacy GT, and I could see water dripping off the dash. Thought it was the windshield, but it turned out to be the drain tube of the sunroof! It pulled off of the drain for the sunroof surround and was leaking onto my headliner then running down the pillar, finally coming off the bottom of the dash. That was after the 2 weeks of rain that we had here in New England earlier this month. I just had to push it back on and hose clamp it. Hope that helps.
  4. I'll try to make it, but I'm working job #2 that day. I grew up on the north shore, so just tell me an address and I'll find my way. If the wife and kids are at the in-laws in Swampscott, I'll have an excuse to get there. Sorry, no lifted Legacy GT rides here. Maybe I'll have my JDM garnish on by then. Oooo, fancy....
  5. Even if you are using the factory deck, replacing the speakers will make a HUGE difference. I've got a 97 Legacy GT Wagon with an Alpine deck that I put in. I changed the factory speakers a few months before the deck, and almost changed my mind about buying the new radio! In the end, I did end up replacing it, just for the option to play mp3 discs and plug in satellite radio or an ipod. Just curious about your "The logic is that the older speakers will act as more of a set of "tweeters" with less bass running to them (less chance of blowing) while the new set in the rear doors will handle the majority of the bass (as they are newer and less likely to blow)", How would you do that without using inline capacitors(bass blockers)? The tone controls don't "fade" front to rear, so the same audio would be going to the old and new speakers.
  6. 1997 Legacy GT Wagon - Continental ContiSport Contact 205/55/16. Even in snow they keep me going, contrary to all reviews. I guess that I like to live dangerously.
  7. OK, thanks for the diatribe and calling me fat. Anyways, I am 36 and was a professional installer for 10 years until I grew up. It's been in the car since 1997 and not a single problem. I've even got one in my 1987 GMC 2500 plow truck, and my 2003 Grand Caravan and again, not a problem. In my state (Massachusetts) it is illegal to install in a MT car, besides dangerous. I have 3 kids. They appreciate the warmth. FYI 6'2" 260lbs, so I guess that I am fat to some people... ;-)
  8. That's why I have a remote starter! Same problem here in Central Mass the other day, but I just let her run and warm up. I leave the defroster and blower controls set for that very reason. I guess I'm just lazy.
  9. Thanks for the info. Since they are projector lights, do I still have to be concerned about the beam pattern? They seem pretty straight on. There are a total of 4 lamps in the housing. The projector, an amber corner, a 5w (?) and an H3 next to the projector. Lots more than the 9007 and the corner in the stock housing!
  10. Hi, I'm new here. I just bought a pair of JDM projector headlights for my 97 GT Wagon. Any idea what needs to be done to the wiring to make them work?!?!? I could plug away at it, but I'm impatient and I have the wealth of knowledge that is the USMB at my disposal. I'm pretty good with electrical/mechanical repairs, so you don't have to worry about going over my head. :-) Please help me! Thanks, Kevin
  11. I'm having the same issue with the fuel smell, but it's not just after starting, it ALWAYS! No visible leaks. I just got the car and it had been sitting for almost a year before I rescued her. I was thinking that maybe the injector seals may be going bad, but the smell seems to be mostly around the vapor can. It's REALLY bad right after I fill up or after a prolonged highway romp chasing a WRX.......
