Gnuman, the reason i think it is the clutch pack is,when i first bought my 91 and got hungup the first time it did the same thing, sounded like[and felt like] i was dropping it in gear at 5000 rpms.i was told by a local mech. to run a can of trans x for about 150 miles and drain,i did and the condition cleared up. what really causes this i dont have a clue.

here is my question t5o anybody that wants to answer, why would a center diff only act like this when the wheels are cranked all the way, this part dont make sense, why not going straight? yes i do think the stealership knows more than they are saying, the only thing that can bind with wheels cranked all the way is the axle,if not please enlighten me.

since you didnt have the bang bang in the beginning,i dont think its the rear end. with the fuse in the rear end is only [following]where the car goes,no pressure.i think it is the clutch pack engauging violently.if you turn the rear end over by hand[jacked up] you should feel or hear a rough ratchet sound if the diff is bad.

this is what starts goofy law suits when they have no merit.Lets put the blame where it belongs,HE drove the car into the water,if the headlights worked, the brakes worked, the steering was working,he has nobody to blame.subaru to my knowledge has no cars that are waterproof.so in my opinion HE needs to change his driving habits, subaru dont need to change anything.

im really curois to see how this plays out, most stealerships want to replace engines so they are not responsible for anything.they dont want the cost of having to do it again.most reman parts have a warranty but does not include labor,so if the replaced engine blows up next week they call where they got it,thier butt is covered. i would take bets nothing wrong but head gaskets.
