  2. Hey Miles, My daily driver right now is an '88 GL 4WD wagon. I bought an '86 GL-10 wagon that came with a regular steel wheel as a spare. At first glance the wheel looked identical to the other steel wheels I have but after looking closer it's not. When I first put this wheel on the '88 it slightly rubbed on the tie rod end and I just drove it like that until it clearanced itself. In the last month it got pretty noisey again to the point where I took it off last week. To use a line:Something's happening here, what it is, ain't exactly clear. At least to me. Later
  3. Hey taprackready, It may seem like it, however, it looks like it's true. For instance, look at the Justy threads and the comments being published...from people who've never driven one. Actually, I'd be up for a Subaru meet that included a drag race. Any idea what a 5 speed, DL, front wheel drive stripper will do? There would be some embarrassed EA owners around, that's for sure. Q
  4. Hey targarose, I have a '89 GL Sedan, DR 5 speed. I'm not ready to put it back on the road just yet so I can't run out and check it. With the 3.90 gear @ 4500 RPM or so, it runs 105 mph, in fourth. The tach may be off. Do you have it in low range? Under sized tires? Please report what you find out. Q
  5. I heard that, GD. I used to carry a knife...till I learned I could kill a man with my bare hands;)
  6. Tell us about your Justy! '89 Justy DL 5 Speed '89 GL Sedan 5 Speed (my 4 wheeler) '88 Gl Wagon auto awd (4 wheeler back up) '87 GL Wagon (parts car) '87 GL Wagon 5 Speed (Miami) eventual parts hauler '86 GL-10 Turbo Wagon parts car===mabie
  7. Hey All, Not wanting to single out Hondasucks here, but...lifters and lash adjusters are two different things. It can and will confuse people if we don't use the right names for these parts. Hope this helps. Quidam
  8. Steve, what he said above. If it still does it while running it's prolly the thermostat sticking. I've seen this wit my own two eyes. Hope it helps. Quidam
  9. Yea, what WJM said about his 89 RX. My '89 GL Sedan w/DR 5 speed and my '87 GL FWD 5 speed will both rev to 7300 RPM and both run clean and smooth @ those revs. My '88 GL 4WD w/3 AT goes to only 5500 to 5900 RPM. This one I suspect it has some form of rev limiter, fuel cut-out, or what not. The '88 GL will rev to 7300 just fine w/o a load on it. All of those tugs of the throttle happened with Sunoco Ultra in the fuel tanks, btw. I have taken into consideration that the factory tachometers could be off. I've only been working with EA-82 cars for about 6 months and I've never bothered to stick a timing light or tach on one, too busy 'wheeling them! After a tear-down and inspection of an '86 EA-82T I can understand why they *could* actually turn 7500 RPM. Not that they're going to make lots of power @ 7500 with the cams they're stuffed with. I just thought that mabie the 5500 to 5900 RPM with the '88 w/AT *might* be an AT thing. No?:eh: Quidam
  10. To the parents of subyluvr2212: Your son needs to have some parts cars. It will save him money, he will be able to have all the spare parts he needs with him on or off road should he break down. Inexpensive parts too! This will give you peace of mind. He can even put together a relitavely inexpensive reliable 2nd car as a backup for his daily driver, so he won't have to borrow your car. He can strip off all the good parts he doesn't need and sell them for a profit. What's left of a parts car can be sold for scrap and will even be picked up. So you see, your son really wants a part time job. Parts cars are a part time job, plus they will keep him busy and possibly out of trouble doing other things. Your son is really a small business person and this will help the economy. On top of that he's recyleing and this may save our planet some day. He may even cover that Subaru up with a lawn green tarp and it can be a conversation piece for your guests. Sincerely Quidam Thank you for the welcome, subyluvr
  11. I would really like to meet some of you that are in the Pa., Oh., WVa., area some time. It's not going to be soon though. I've been keeping up with the junkyard run thread and it sounds interesting. Thank's for the invite but I'm going to have to sit this one out. I have six more cars local I want to buy. One Turbo Wagon rustbucket with rebuilt EA82T/, D/R 5 speed, one that's still on the road, a Wagon called Frankenbu:), also D/R 5 speed and I'd really like to lift and build this one. It's now made up of three different Subarus. One other DL Coupe with a solid body, and two other wagons, one and EA82T. And one GL EA82T sedan, parts car for my other Sedan. Yea, I'm starting a Subaru junkyard so I can work @ home. I have an '89 Justy DL that's a driver and is waiting for me to get to it for a little work so I can sell it. '89 GL Sedan with a 5 speed and D/R that's my driver, a '86 DL wagon from Florida that needs some work so I can sell it, really clean body. '86 GL Wagon w/auto, pushbutton 4WD rusty driver. '86 DL parts car. '86 GL 10 Wagon that's loaded, with the engine out, that I'm trying to decide what to do with. Parts or fix it? The sub-frame is a little rusty and I'm leaning toward parts right now. My drivers can use a lot of those parts. Athens has a lot of Subaru cars running around. Right now, Forresters are *everywhere*. Later on, Quidam
  12. Thank you. I'm still reading here....taking it all in, good stuff.
  13. Hey all, Just wanted to say hi! I've been reading here a lot and happy I found USMB and all that goes with it. I've been having off road fun with a 1989 GL DR this summer. I've decided to take it off the trails for now because I'm beating it up too much. I've got more that are better suited to that! I just couldn't stop at one Subaru and right now I have six. Gotta have those parts cars, ya know! Quidam
