  1. Pricing closed deck ej22T 

    Only thinking about a project. That’s it. Only dreaming. 
     

    So what’s this worth in your opinion? Keep in mind this is in the NYC area and there’s no shortage of spoiled kids with too much money. 
     

    From posting on C’list:

     

    F/S is a 2.2 turbo engine from a 1994 legacy sedan. The engine was removed complete including the harness, turbo, part of the downpipe, etc. This is a rare engine being the only closed deck 2.2 and factory turbo 2.2 besides that of the 22B. Donor car was an automatic and indicated just over 88k miles. The engine currently has a 02+ WRX crank gear and modified EJ22 cam gear so it can be ran with a 02+ WRX computer - the original gears are included.

    Also available are several harnesses, computers, etc for swapping this engine into a newer chassis, beetle, whatever.

    This is a hard engine to price, make me an offer

  2. Thanks ! That’s an Outdoor Sport edition 1994 with following generation 15” wheels. 
     

    Continuing the story here in 2023 that lovely green wagon has just been re-registered which is a kind of big deal. The car was rear ended in 2021 and I’m still getting Chiropratic care for that. But the big deal ( my body doesn’t mean much because it’s just a life of self abuse) is that the car was totaled out by the offenders insurance but somehow I’ve eluded the State inspections etc etc. 
     

    Maybe they’ll catch up to me but I was told back when I got the fat check that it may need inspection to keep on the road. Then someone said if I sell that car then the next owner will have to have it inspected. Bottom line is the State DMV sent me a re-register form and I quickly did it online and here I am with another two years of gen one Legacy ownership. Rock Da House !

  3. Yeah probably on the list of things to just shut up and open the wallet for. 
     

    My dream method involves not removal of anything but the bearing. But I’m dreaming. 
     

    So maybe next question would be this: If I do remove the knuckle and mark everything clearly (eccentric, linkage) the alignment should stay well enough that I can drive it to the local Firestone where the car has a lifetime alignment ? 
     

    Suspension/linkage stuff is like right behind electrical for jobs I’d prefer to leave alone or to the person who works those daily. 
     

    Car is our queen of the fleet. Survived well and shows it. The dog is NOT allowed in this car. So yeah I should throw money. But it is super solid with minimal corrosion. Wouldn’t be so hard to do the work but things are different for me being a condo owner and no garage etc. so not buying the press, not freezing the bearing and heating the hub. But I would if I had your place maybe. Enjoy your home, garage, and driveway and remember I’m envious. 

  4. Basically is there and easy enough backyard method to save some money ? 
     

    The dealer has the special ram tool for this , yes ? So the hub/knuckle doesn’t have to come off the car. No need to do an alignment that way too I’d guess.

    But what can a thrifty guy like myself do to get around the dealer?

    And the lady at the service counter said it’s around $200 for the parts. Really ? Their dealership also has one of the nations highest volume Subaru online parts websites. By their website I see it more like $54 in parts. 
     

    Forget about labor here in the money belt. They want like $500 in labor and they admit they have the ram/press tool to make it a half hour job or so. 
     

    If I spent the money it wouldn’t kill me. But I can’t help myself still. Age has given me lots of messages but my thick skull shields me.

  5. Broken right front axle at the outer end. Not used to this happening.

    Yeah I can carry on with reasons/excuses why it takes me so long to get to things like this - sometimes. 
     

    To cover my insecure backside I will say - life gets in the way ! Sound familiar?

  6. As stated. Now here’s a tip.

    Over on the dreaded face book there’s a guy on a few of “our” forums by the name of David Melcher. I suggest you contact him immediately.

    He has supplied to me the exact same parts. Mine were for EA71 1970’s Subarus but it’s the same situation through the 80’s and the EA82 here. I do realize it’s more common on the earlier ea71 and ea81 vehicles but has also happened on Loyales. 
     

    David is top notch. Great person doing extraordinary things for the used Subaru owners community. 
     

    I just received two boxes of vented disk calipers with parking brake lines and backing plates from David to upgrade my 79 wagon from the nasty first gen calipers and solid rotors. 
     

    And I’d gladly continue to buy from a guy like him.

  7. Scroll down this thread and see the pedal box repair one or more guys did. That will explain and guide you. 
     

     

    The third gear synchro issue is mostly with shifting into third but as time goes on it’ll start popping out of third. Then second and fourth when it gets awful. 
     

    With the amount of 80’s 4WD Subarus out there still I’m kind of surprised nobody has run off some batches of synchro rings. What are they - brass ? Or something soft.

  8. You likely got the TO bearing for the early “Loyale”.

    Thats for an EA82 engine which is the OHC 1800 as opposed to your EA81 which is OHV 1800. 
     

    From the Beck Arnley catalog I can see you need their part number 062-1125 

    I would search ebay for that - Beck Arnley Subaru and the part number or just type in clutch release or throw out. 
     

    The original part number from Subaru is 43151 7000 which your local parts guy likely won’t find. There is likely a supersede number. They like to add letters to the part number carrying them forward. I’d guess they threw an “AA” in there but that’s it’s own story. 
     

    A little additional info:

    228mm NOT 200mm clutch size

    Plenty of covers on ebay. And pressure plates too.

  10. An old friend has his eye on it now that I’ve alerted him. He had the exact same color , model , pretty damn close all around to this one up for sale.

    Chris is a member here as well. This board is how we all came to know each other here in CT and just this past year I was sifting through one guy’s family’s barn and came across parts from Chris’ 1975 4WD wagon. That was a lifetime ago. Chris moved out west , started a family and now he’s back East. And looking for a match for his beloved 84 4WD wagon. And the stuff in the barn has finally been disseminated and concluded. Barn living a new life.

    If you wanted to have some parts counter guy or gal search the part number is 7210 61000 for the Right side

    and 

    721061010 for the Left side.

     

    The link bushing I’ve actually seen lately on ebay for around $12 and it’s p/n 6211 08170

     

    Doug Hill - DRW Bushings makes polyurethane sets for these generations. 
     

    Good luck with it. You probably know already that they (old Subarus) tend to flex out and reshape well enough for another 100,000 miles or so. Done a few myself. Chain to a tree, reverse hard, etc etc

  12. I have one that I probably should pass on. It’s in Norwich CT if you’re interested in a long winter’s drive. Actually I think there two EA81s and also pretty sure the neither of us here cares too much to keep them. 
     

    Not my property and it’s an hour and and change drive for me but if you want to meet there I’ll be happy to make the time. I can always use to check in up there and there’s a project car of mine there and scattered parts etc from the last time I was there.

    There’s an engine crane there to assist loading. 
     

    The one engine I’m sure I can claim I’d be happy with $200 from one of us here. It’s complete. I’ll dig up some pics for you if you email me at moosens@yahoo.com 

    I think it’s a price that’ll allow you to spend on the gas. Just a thought. 

    And the second EA81 is still attached to a first generation dual range which stays here. The engine is probably available but I’d want to clear it with Scott the owner up there in case he wants it for his Hatchback. That engine has 49k on it and if it sells it’ll be through my hands at $500 because I’ll never see another one that low miles again. It’s a candidate for one of my late 70’s wagons.

    Couple of guys have driven up from NC and made out like bandits. I’ve been in purge mode. Only the season had interrupted but the weather is looking blessed today. And in general it looks like mild weather coming. 
     

  13. I believe you can interchange the bell housings. Been too long but I’d say yes and also maybe your exhaust may be a tad bit more narrow that the EA81 was. And don’t forget the engine mounts but those you can slip one side in while tilting and then get the second side in (although I may be thinking the reverse swap). 
     

    That EA71 has no water duct on top of the engine, correct ? If no duct I think that’s a plus for you. The earlier “narrow case” has the external water duct. Should be same for your purposes. At that point it’s all about being in the electronic ignition league or not. Your 1800 never had that old points ignition. 

  14. I’ve basically dropped the ball on this for a while. 
    PRP did finally get back after the initial quote with a reminder about time extension of the offer. So I’m guessing I’m past that limit.

     

    My thought was that as long as I showed interest that PRP would then use AI or a program to investigate the potential of the market. I’d then assume that they’ve discovered the FB groups and likely ripped through motor vehicle records available.

    Well at least that’s what I hope for. So they will then stock the item themselves. 
     

    The tree I shook didn’t show a lot of (fellow) nuts on the ground. So I’d rather not make the effort at this time.

    I’ll be using my last one or maybe next to last one this spring. 
     

    On a related note, as mentioned recently by another guy we should also all look out for weaknesses and cracked inside the rain gutters. I’m fairly sure that’s where my current problem is. Will try to post that separately when I have a minute.
