I've got a 96 OBW with a UHaul hitch...so I know they make them. The model is "Drawtite #36234". A website I found says the same hitch works on "90-99 Subaru Legacy Coupe & Sedan (incl. Outback & SUS)"

Some counties here in PA do it...but not mine. My car had emmissions stickers when I bought it (Pittsburgh, PA) but they are not needed here. It just makes things easier.

The keyless entry on my 96 OBW has the same problem...you unlock the car when the keys are in your pocket. I might try and disable keyless entry and unlock it by hand...

Cant you get the tank down to just a few gallons and dump a lot of Heet dry gas/alcohol in and make it run clean then?

Go ahead and replace it. It takes about 5 minutes. On my 96 OBW (2.2l) it is just under the throttle, right of where air enters the engine. You will need a 10 inch socket extention. Make sure you spray it down with some WD-40 or something to get it loose. The part costs about $40 at Autozone.

6 1/2 in. for the front and back.

Check out cobbtuning.com. Don't expect miracles unless you want to pour lots of money into it. You might get a HP or two with a cold air intake...but you'll lose much of your low end power. I am sure you can cut a hole in the scoop and rig the intake up to suck air from it...someone else might give details into doing this. Good luck.

I am sure they got that problem fixed. I really doubt they would still be selling them if they didn't. It might have been better for them if they renamed them...

I believe it is on the driver side. It is the same plate that says which engine you have, and etc.

It could be many things. Get the code pulled. AutoZone will do it for free. It could be somthing simple like a knock sensor or coolent temp. sensor...or something else. Let us know what you find out.

In my 96 OBW 2.2L the horn is on the passanger side of the engine...under the airbox. I hear Hella Supertones are sweet...i've yet to hear them

1997 - 1999 Outbacks had non-working ones...like the Legacy GT of the same time period. I think those were the years they had them....

Imprezas weight less...so it'd make sence.

I was getting 23 - 24 before I did spark plugs/wires, pcv valve, etc. Now I get 24 - 27. Some highway/some city. My best was 30.1 MPG.

I moved my radio into the lower slot because I could never see the thing when I had something in the cup holder. And the thing won't hold a 20oz bottle...that should be the 'norm' for its size!

Outbacks are just a Legacy with more ground clearence and two tone paint. My moms 1995 Legacy cost $16,000 new. My Outback when new cost $23,500. Same car...besides bigger wheels, more ground clearence, and two tone paint. The Outback is a wagon, and her Legacy is a sedan...but that is still a big price gap for almost the same car. I didn't buy the OB new...but it came with the original reciept from the dealer it was bought at and it had the price.

You can probably get the tire repaird...so a new set will not be required. You could also get a 5th rim and extra new tire, and rotate them all...so you always have a spare with even wear. If all wheels are on the ground, you can be pulled out of mud and whatnot.
