  1. Expect to have to get the head gasket done...it will cost about $1200. (99 has problems with the head, right?)
  2. Yeah, I was thinking fans as soon as I read the subject...they randomly go on (alot) when the AC is on.
  3. Here are pictures of mine rigged to the box: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showpost.php?p=128521&postcount=4 I got such poor gas mileage, and ruined a MAF sensor I just put the box back on. To connect the filter to the box I cut off the 'wing' part that sticks out you screw to the box and used PVC cement to keep it on there. Also, I had to strap on a rubber thing to insert into the MAF sensor unit so I it would be more stabe.
  4. Is it a 2.2l or a 2.5l? I have a 96 OBW and a 95 Legacy L both with 2.2l engines...and both tick. The Legacy ticked really loud for a while...then seems to have quited down...but both still tick. Its a Subaru thing...or so it seems. I've learned to live with it. They have done it for a while and I don't think it will hurt anything.
  5. $12,500 seems about right. Find some things (dings, dents, etc) that you can get them to lower the price because of. I've never done the sparkplugs in my cars...I think you have to remove the washer fluid reservoir to get to the one...but its not to bad to do it yourself.
  6. Dealer told be the remotes for my OBW are $50 each, and Autozone told me the aftermarket replacment cost $50, also. Perhaps Autozone or Adv. Auto Parts (or something like that) would have more durable ones, but I doubt they would be any cheaper.
  7. Drill some holes and cut with a coping saw? I've never done it...but thought about getting a hood off an OBW with a scoop and doing that.
  8. On that model the timing belt does not need to be done until 105,000 miles. I believe that 2000 is the first year without problems with the 2.5l head gaskets (correct me if I am wrong) Spark plug change interval is 30,000 miles...so i'd probably get a tuneup, change all fluids, and other basic things right away...just basic junk.
  9. 2.2l engines are wonderful. Keep oil in it...don't beat it to bad...and 200,000 miles isn't uncommon without much work.
  10. Mass air flow sensor needs to be in there... I've never used a cold air intake...so I don't know. Lemme know if this intake is any good.
  11. My CC wasn't working...I replaced EVERYTHING You know what it was?...the little plastic/rubber thing that pushes the button the on the clutch thing...so it though my clutch was always down and would not engauge. If you have a manual, check that...and if not, the brakes have one, too. If you need CC parts I have working cruise parts from a 95 Legacy for sale.
  12. How is the gas tank acting up? If it always reads empty then fill it up all the way...until gas is almost overflowing...that fixed mine. If it is acting up in that when you have a half tank you really have more...get used to it :-p Most newer Subarus are like that.
  13. It was that damn little peice of plastic that makes the button on the clutch switch go in...it had a hole worn in it...that is all that was making it not work... Oh well...its fixed. Anyone need CC parts for a mid-90s Legacy?
  14. Mods? Well...for a --small-- amount of power gain, try a cold air intake and new exhaust (cat-back perhaps) Want some power? Get a turbo...but it will cost you. More power = more money & more work. Or do you mean modifications like hoodscoops and whatnot?
  15. yeah, on the 96 the horn sounds by pushing on the airbag cover, which I am sure is why the switch for the 95 didn't work for me, and neither did my horn with the new switch. I am thinking of just going to the dealer and getting a new switch for my car...or possibly the junk yard...but I really do think it is the switch.
  16. For $35 I got all the parts...so I did it logically. It stoped working when I was messing with the switch in the wheel a lot to set my speed. Then I did other stuff...still nothing works. I might take it to the dealer and have them do it. I've replaced everything and it still does not work. Maybe i'll try a switch made for the 96 and not the 95...I don't know if that extra connector has something to do with it.
  17. Yeah...I have cloth seats in both my Subes...I love my Outback seats...very comfortable.
  18. Horn works with the old switch. I didn't do the clutch pedal because...I dunno...but i'll do it. No, didn't replace any bulbs lately.
  19. btw, the parts I got were for a 95 Legacy. I used them in a 96 OBW. Everything was the same...except the extra wire/connector on the switch for the steering wheel.
  20. Does not make sence...:-\ Makes my feel better about avg. 24MPG in my OBW(some highway...some city)
