  1. http://www.subarubrat.com/PICS/carlisle5.jpg - This one? It belongs to someone on this board...unsure of who...they were at the Carlisle meet in May. Someday i'll have an old school Sube to mess with...
  2. 24MPG average on my Outback 2.2l. Changed the air flow sensor...still get 24 as an average. I got over 30 for an all highway trip...but its usuly like 27 on highway.
  3. I hear ya on the fog lamps...i'd like to run mine when the high beams are on...seems much brighter then. Good luck with your Subaru
  4. That is a 1996 Subaru Legacy Outback. I got it with 90,000 miles on it (April of 2004) for about $6,000. It is a 5 speed. You can check out more picturs of it at http://www.mattocs.net/Subaru/ When I was car shopping I was looking for a mid-90's Legacy sedan with a 5 speed and the EJ22...but that outback caught my eye...I think its that wing/spoiler on the hatch that makes it look cool...
  5. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=18116 That post talks about taking apart the console and whatnot to get the old one out and stuff. Get a wire harness thing...they are like $8. Its pretty simple.
  6. The mid-90s OBW are just Legacy Wagons with two-tone paint and more ground clearence...maybe some others...but those seem to be the main things.
  7. Should be on the metal plate thing on the driver side of the engine compartment...on the side.
  8. take screws out of the cup holder...then some in the slot the ash tray goes in...that plate should come off...unscrew the bracket holding in the radio and that tray...or that is how it is in my Subes. Crutchfield.com has instructions for different cars...might want to check them out. http://www.crutchfield.com/S-vS4ltJz8eVd/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?s=0&c=11&g=880&I=700CARKIT&o=p&a=1&cc=01&avf=Y&search=
  9. On the Legacy we've always gotten what was cheap...heh...seems to go through tires fast...might be low quality tires. On the Outback...well, it came with new Bridgestone or Firestone (I don't recall) and they seem like real nice tires...i'll get the model and make tonight.
  10. Yeah...I get lazy and went like 7k without an oil change in my Legacy...didn't lose any oil in that time. At work in my work truck i've gone like 5k...and I need to get one done this coming week...it'll prob. explode soon...its one of those Triton V10 Fords.
  11. Look for a 2.2l engine From what I hear, the head gasket problem can cost over $1000. I assume they pull the engine if they are going to put new gaskets on the head...but i've never really looked into this...because both my Subes are 2.2l.
  12. Ok...when I lay on the gas and dump the clutch the RPMs shoot up and the car starts to crawl then takes off...it dosn't slip really. My Outback and Legacy do this...and they both have newer clutchs and the Legacy always did it (even when new). Is there a way to tighten the clutch so it won't slip and just spin the tires? I'd rather buy new tires every 6 months than a new clutch. Thanks.
  13. My 2.2 Outback gets 24MPG average. Up to 30 on highway @ 55MPH. When my air flow sensor was going bad I get really bad mileage.
  14. I looked at everything and it seemed to be ok. The brakes and clutch come up all the way...so I dunno. Anyone know how much it would cost to get it fixed? I don't know how long I can go without cruise control. :-/
  15. It was working fine yesterday...then I was in a 35MPH area and wanted to use my CC because cops love to set up speed traps there because if there was no signs you'd think it was a 55MPH...so I was accelerating and setting speed a whole lot with my CC lever...then later...it didn't work. I'll check out everything and make sure it looks good. Yes, it is a 5 speed.
  16. So yesterday my cruise control stoped working...the light comes on when I press the botton...but it does not let me set a speed or accelarate. Could is be a fuse or something with the brakes (making it think i'm applying the brakes) 1996 Outback...anyone have any ideas?
  17. Cant you saw the one in there shorter and put a different knob on it?
  18. The only thing those jeeps have over you is ground clearence. Good luck!
  19. The 2.2l Subaru engine (EJ22) is prob. the best engine out. It is 135HP and will last a long long time. Look for one of them.
  20. I just bought a 1996 OBW 2.2l 5m. I paid $6000 for it with 90,000 miles. If the rim is bad and the tire deflates just go for new rims...check out Sears if you want something cheap, or check out junkyards for one of the same kind. Look for a 2.2l manual...unless you don't drive manuals...then just look for a Legacy Wagon auto with the 2.2l engine
