  1. Okay, it's out and there are two bad U-joints, one on each end. I found this place, not sure if that's the route I'll be taking but it is a start. http://www.thrashdriveshaft.com/ $369 is not bad with what you get. The car is going to start to need a lot of love at it's age . I need to make up my mind how long I want to keep it and all. Thanks for the help, Tim
  2. Is the carrier and it's surounding rubber deal available from a parts store or is this a dealer item??? Thanks Nipper!!!
  3. 97 OBW, AT, with about 173k on it. I get a fairly bad vibration when I decelerate, pop it into nutral and the shake goes way. My first inclination was a bad U-joint, but when I gave the drive shaft a tug the carrier bearing seemed to have a lot of play in it. I'm just trying to get confirmation that it should not have much slop in it. I don't think the carrier can be replaced with out replacing the front drive line. Please let me know what you all think. PS this started getting bad during a camping trip pulling a pop-up camper. Thanks, Tim
  4. I need an axle on my OBW I'll be giving the MWE axle a shot. I like to support our community and if Em is giving them thumbs up they've got to be good!!! Let you know when i get them, Tim
  5. Check these guys out, best NEW axle I've found. Also available at one of the chain auto parts places, Auto Zone I think. http://www.autopn.com/autoparts/axles/axles_choose_make.asp
  6. Looks nice, now just two questions....... Do you still have the old springs and will they fit a 97 OBW . Later, Tim
  7. We made it back safe and sound. It was a really nice time, just wish a few more of you guys could have made it. Mick and Indy as usual were great hosts, Thanks for getting everything set up!!! And Max said to tell Indy He's really sorry;) . Later, Tim
  8. Posts' like this never cease to amaze me . From the looks of it you riped him off:slobber: , to get a Brat in that condition for $2000 is phenomenal:headbang: . Buying a car with almost 300k on the clock you should expect to put some back into it. The amount of work done prior to selling also says alot about the former owner. As far as I'm concerened you should be doing the "happy dance"  . Enjoy your new Brat, Tim
  9. Goes back to the age old saying "show me the money", NASCAR has a huge following and is a billion dollar industry. Unfortunately WRC is not. Know what the on board nav system says on a NASCAR??? [computer voice]: Turn left Turn Left Turn Left Turn Left Turn Left [/computer voice]
  10. It may be hard to understand now (wait until you have kids then you will understand). The reason you are catching heck over this is because we care about you!!. The last thing any of us want to see is another "We lost a member" thread in OT. Unless you were tied into the car and the door handles were removed you don't have an excuse, period. I'm with the rest, get a new friend. Later, tim
  11. From now until you prove other wise, the "D" stands for "Dumba$$" . Don't say "but I wasn't driving", you were in the car and just as culpable. Take a look at this thread, two guys just having some fun..... http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=75304 PS. I am glad you are both basicaly in one piece, please learn from this experiance.
  12. Had our first ever "Wheels and Wings" show at work today. Probably not to many with pictures like these..... Later, Tim
  13. Your best bet is to hit the local wrecking yard and just start crawling around under cars. I could see the dealership having them, but you will pay a premium price. Later, Tim
  14. Now when you go from 185/80/13 to 28/8.5/14s the 20% difference is quite substantial
  15. Nicely done Connie:clap:  Here's a pic of some visiters I had a few years back, actually scared the heck out of me to roll over and be face to face with them:eek: That is my youngest boy, and there are 3 Canadian Geese under the car!!!
  16. I'd have to say most of the meets are attended by other people from other boards. The WCSS would be a great example, but on a smaller scale we've had an occasional NABISCO member or 2.5RS member show at the MWSS. Who was the guy with the Legacy at #2 who really did good in the mud???
  17. Probably a little late in the game for this year but next year you WI guys should think about comming down for the Midwest Subby Meet. I think this year will be the 5th year. Oh yeah, you too Matt!!! Later, Tim http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=73221
  18. Seems as good a place as any...... There is one for sale down the road from me. If anyone is interested I could get a phone number and a picture or two. Maron, looks to be in nice shape, no idea what year, early 90's would be my guess. Tim
  19. The simple answer is yes. The correct answer is no. But there are options. You can use a tappered acorn nut and they will be fine, I've replaced all my studs with longer and slightly thicker ones and then used an acorn nut with a large tapper. I've had them on for years with no problems. Tim
  20. This thread has pic of mine. Page one and again on page three..... http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=70922&page=3
  21. Hey Jim, remember that you will need a converter because the turn signals are seperate from the other lights. You could have a fire if you don't do it right. I had me hitch installed but I do recall the guy saying it was a pain because there was some drilling required. Tim
  22. I sat in the car quite a few times over the last year. Very sad to go to the dealership and talk with the guy who sold the car. Alcohol (BAC .23) was involved as was exsesive speed (apx 155mph on a 55mph curve) and possibly no seat belts. I'll try and get the pics. good time for a reminder with graduations etc just ahead. Tim http://www.argusleader.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=200770514034
  23. I'm not sure of the year(s) but I belive some mid-eighties Subbies had the Check Engine light that doubled as the comp trouble code light. See, they pay those engineers big bucks for a reason . Tim
