  1. I have an "04" Outback Sedan - H6. I enjoy the vehicle tremendously but have been somewhat disappointed in the amount of items I have had to have repaired or serviced, that in my opinion are not normal repairs. Some items have been posted here, some were not. My family has always been a Toyota family and I am somewhat spoiled with Toyota quality, but have always wanted a Subaru because of the AWD and styling/appeal. I can say this though; I DISAGREE with "msmiths" about the extended warranty. I purchased the "Bumper to Bumper extended warranty"(cost $1500) but I am covered for 6yrs - 72,000 miles and I HAVE needed every bit of that extended coverage. The amount of items that have been covered under the warranty has more than paid for itself. I know for a fact that the total costs of everything I have had repaired/replaced under warranty has exceeded $4000. My cost; $50 deductible. So the way I look at it, $1500 + $200 in deductibles = $1700 and I have saved about $2300 if not more, and I am still under warranty, for future issues. Personally, I wont buy a vehicle if I can't extend the "bumper to bumper" coverage. From the posts I have read on this board, it is; "pure financial suicide NOT to purchase the extended bumper to bumper coverage on a new/used Subaru". Good Luck.
  2. I know this is not the technical-mechanical answer you are looking for but I have an "04" Outback Sedan, with a d/s headlight (brand new bulb) that occasionally goes out and I just tap on the headlight lightly, a couple of times and it works fine, for awhile, then I repeat the process, the next time it goes out. Good Luck,
  3. "04" Outback Sedan H-6 ; 61,000 miles. All of a sudden on my Outback sedan, when I turned the A/C on, low speed aka (1 blade on the digital pic of fan display) I hear a hissing noise coming out of the vents and the A/C has quit blowing "cold". Am I just looking at re-charging the freon and the hissing noise is a way of telling me it is time for A/C service or is it something else major. All opinions appreciated, and Thank you in advance.
  4. Greetings everyone; I had heard that "07" would be the last year of the Baja? Now, I hear that Subaru has put the "07" on HOLD and it might not even be built? Anyone heard otherwise or have a link confirming or denying this rumor. Thank you in advance.
  5. Was looking around and it seems that the market is saturated with used 2005 Outback 2.5I. What is wrong with this vehicle (if anything) that so many have been traded in?? All I can figure is the 4cyl = 175 hp , is not enough for some? Any input is greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.
  6. 2004 Outback Sedan H6 and I buy regular unleaded (87). In fact: I notate every fuel purchase and my fuel mileage is better on regular unleaded than it was on premium. In my opinion, Save your money.
  7. 2004 Outback H6 Sedan - Looking to replace the Bridgestone Potenzas. I have heard that buying tires for AWD vehicles is different than a regular vehicle.?. Qualities in tire that I am looking for, In this order: Rain/Snow traction Longevity Comfort / ride / noise level Speed rating As you can see, I am not worried about cost. I was thinking about Yokohama YK420 or Goodyear Assurance TripleTred. Have YK420 on a Camry but it is NOT all wheel drive. Any / All tire coments & opinions and/or suggestions appreciated. Thank you in advance.
  8. Just in case anyone else has the same issue? The culprit was a Charcoal Canister. Yes, I know the code doesnt even come close, but dealer replaced canister at his expense and check engine light never came back on. Damn thing is located in a bad place, any type of debris that kicks up can puncture canister, especially since it is under trunk on passenger side right behind r/r tire. Thanks everyone.
  9. Thank you for your response. The Subaru dealer says that the system is holding pressure. Yes, it does seem like it could be just about anything as I went through a similar episode with a Toyota. I guess one of my major questions should have also been, Can I do permanent damage of any kind if I keep driving it ? and am I going to brake down on the side of the road eventually, because of this code ? I am really glad I purchased the extended bumper to bumper warranty. Going to print your response and provide it to tech, as he is open minded and does not mind input. It cant hurt. If you come up with anything else, please feel free. Thanks,
  10. Greetings everyone: 2004 Outback Sedan H6 3.0 , 38,000 miles: I keep having my check engine light come on and it keeps reading the same code. P0457, Evap System, Gas Cap Loose or off. Cap is secured and turned 180 degrees after fueling up and using Premium Fuel. Dealer has tested fuel cap & pressure tested, replaced fuel cap, but yet to no avail, check engine light triggers at 3/4 tank. Though, I am not being charged for any of this by Subaru dealer, it is getting somewhat irritating, because I don't like the light being on and dropping the car off at the dealer in the morning and picking it up in the afternoon is getting old, even though the dealer is less than a mile away. Car has no history of check engine light coming on, then at 37,000 miles it started, after feuling up. Have used same gas station since beginning. If anyone has any suggestions or happens to be a Subaru Tech, your input will be greatly appreciated. I am wondering that even though it is reading this code, that maybe, it might be another area(sensor, relay) that might be triggering this code incorrectly, Or maybe their is a Subaru bulletin out as a subsequent to an original bulletin that maybe this dealer is not looking at or aware of , or just overlooking ? Not trying to insult anyones intelligence, just trying to solve issue. Thank you in advance.
