  1. It looks like a Subaru alarm. I followed the disangage procedure for the Outback on this page http://www.cars101.com/subaru/keyless.html and it was not having any effect until I disconnected the battery once more and retried both procedures again after reconnecting the battery. It worked, and I have not had any alarm problems since.
  2. while doing a tune-up on the car yesterday I noticed the silencer trunk can be easily removed from underneath the bumper/fender cover. Once removed the air cleaner can draw unrestricted cold air from the fender. Has anyone done this and knows what gains can be expected? the car definitely seems to rev better, but that could be due to the tune-up also. thanks.
  3. I have a 98 Outback. Yesterday after disconnecting the battery the alarm armed itself and I could not start the car. From yesterdays suggestion I pressed the little black toggle switch on the driver side kick panel with the key in to disangage the alarm and the starter kill circuit to eventually start the car. The problem that poped afterward is that everytime the alarm is disarmed and all the car doors closed the alarm rearms itself and locks all the doors in about 30 seconds. Opening the driver door with the key does not disable the alarm. It goes off again with the lights blinking until the alarm is reset using the toggle button. The car can then be started and driven until left again and the doors closed. Once the doors are closed it will lock itself again and the ordeal has to be repeated to start the car. I do not have a remote. What can I do to disable the alarm so that it will not repeat this crazy cycle? Is there a certain way the toggle switch needs to be used to disable the alarm properly? thanks for any help.
  4. We recently purchsed a 98 outback with a Subaru alarm. Today I was changing the plugs and removed the battery to get access on the drivers side plugs. Now I can not start the car and the exterior lights and the red alarm indicator LED keep going on and off whenever the door is opened for about 30 seconds. No horn buzzing. The car came without a remote controller, so I am assuming there was none. In the manual it sais to open the doors with the key slowly to disable the alarm. I have done that with no results. Do all these cars come with a remote controller if they have an alarm? Do I need one to disable the alarm? Can I disable the alarm in any way with just the keys? Is there a specific sequence of events that need to happen to disable this alarm? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
  5. How exactly do I check the resistance of an injector? I have never checked one before. Thanks for your replies.
  6. This car is in Florida and I found it while on vacation. I am thinking of driving it to Ohio and fixing it there. Do you guys think it would be OK to drive it like that to Ohio? Would that injector just not deliver enough fuel to that cylinder while the problem is there? Does anyone know how exactly I can check the injector coil, or the voltage at the injector and where it comes from to check for a bad connection? I have a VOM with me here. Thanks again.
  7. I am looking at a used 98 Outback with 154k miles on it from a dealers lot. I took it to a local AutoZone to check on a check engine code and it comes back with "injector voltage low on #4 injector". Looking on some searches I see that #4 cylinder is the one where most head gaskets fail. Could these be related? Has anyone ever troubleshot a low voltage problem on an injector? Where should I begin to check on this problem? Thanks in advance.
