  1. ok, take the GVW, and then subtract the max payload from that(which I believe is right around 900lbs) and you'll have a number thats very close
  2. ^^^ you guys rock... I'm gonna have friday or saturday off work and hit up a junkyard and get some parts, will update with what i've found then. in one day you guys posted like what it took me a week+ to find, and then some extra I didnt find on top of that. I love forums. So, for those who know, would you suggest blow through carb or go to spfi? also, any thoughts about intercooling? would it be any good for a low end project like this because i know where I can pick a decent one up practically free...
  3. for a carb blow through i'd have to build a pressure box for the carb along with higher pressure and higher volume fuel lines/pump along with a a bunch of other things that adjusts the pressure of the fuel to the carb. that seems out of my budget, but doing an spfi setup(which I am going to be doing at somepoint anyways and I wont consider the cost of those parts in this project) really doesnt seem too expensive, larger injector, and then I go grab a supercharger and boost controller stuff off of a buick in a jy or maybe find one off CL or ebay, change the pulleys, do all the fab work myself, I see maybe a $400 project if I take my time. the whole point is to get experiance working with inexpensive and expendable parts working with blower setups, and also see how much more abuse and old worn out ea81 can take.
  4. I'll try to keep an eye out, but lots of red ea82s drive around... as far as meth in the PNW, I dont know about direct use, but I do know for a fact that it is VERY common to find pot off the streets laced with that isht among other things, but weed laced with meth seems most common in my experiance... and dont ask how I know, but I have had some very, very crappy experiances in the last 2 years which will probably affect me for the rest of my life. Quality control is yet another reason why some drugs should be legalized, whether or not people want to go off and get high - I dont anymore - but just for the safety of those who do.
  5. anyone done this? I've been considering what it might take to do this with my weber, been working on the yellow wagon lately and the motor is stock except for a weber, but has 200k miles and proved itself indestructible so far. seems a supercharger would be less work vs turbo, and on an old worn out engine would seem to be an easier way to find out just how much more a stock ea81 can take. I might convert to spfi first though because from what I've read the computers can compensate to a certain amount of boost, where as with a carb would need a lot of extra parts/modification to get it tuned and running right without destroying the motor right away. I'm dead serious about supercharging an ea81, and would like to do it before I rebuild the one i have in the basement so I can get an idea of just how much it can take before failure(and I've abused this particular motor w/ 200k on it heavily...) I think it would be a fun project that would be fairly cheap for what I've got. Not thinking about mad power here, just getting some hands on experiance experimenting with this stuff.

    Lifted STI

Guy has enough money for an STi, he can do whatever the heck he wants with it.

    Hatch Patrol?

Well, some discussion is better than none as I see it, although it would help to try to keep it on topic if possible. And really, theres no debate about whether Jeeps suck or not. They - Are - Trash. And Toyotas are just awesome.

    Hatch Patrol?

JEEP = Junk each and every part, goes along with just empty every pocket I had a cherokee, lift one wheel on curb and it flexs the unibody so bad doors dont shut right and once you open the hatch you cant shut it till all 4 tires are level. Not to mention doors falling off, I blew up 2 transfercases(1 np231 and a np242), and a whole bunch of other stuff. Take it off road once and it will never be straight again, and all the weather seals will leak like a sieve, its a wonder I never managed to blow out the windshield.
  9. how about some pics/videos of it in action
  10. sorry to highjack but if anyone has any information on this build I would greatly appreciate hearing about it(pm would be nice as to not highjack the thread completely) but anyways aside from that, I would LOVE to get my hands on a legacy to play with, I have some metal fab skills and could probably do a mild lift no problem maybe more if someone wants to submit their vehicle and cover the cost of materials...
  11. um 20yr old seals are probably shot anyways... not sure where you heard atf down carb throat, I think that would cause problems. What I do sometimes is run ATF or a quart of kerosene or so in with the old oil and filter between every other oilchange or so. Just let it sit and idle for 5-10 minutes or so and then drain the oil out immediately. Although, even with an engine completely dissassembled, its next to impossible for me to completely remove all the old varnish and isht short of grinding everything off. (1981 ea81 w/ 167k miles)
  12. hmm... got some fab equipment? like a welder, chop saw, drill press etc... or at least 220? would be cool to get together regularly in a good garage to get some work done on the offroad rig when I get it back in portland.
  13. well its better to have it running right... but if not, something we can do here is put the location of use as an address outside the emissions boundry here, even if the other two locations are inside of that. I don't know if you can do that there. Nice house... what kind of acreage do you have?
  14. yeah, I know, I've seen lots of stuff about it and know where to look, just though it wasnt quite right to tell a new guy to search and then give him a link there are no results from searching
  15. I've looked at making my own rockers, what i have done so far is cut out some sheetmetal on the original rockers below the doors in the unibody and will weld some 2x5 tubing in place. I might upload some pictures later, but pretty much anything you do will require some fabrication on your part.

  17. well I'm gonna be going down to where I'll have my car in a bunch of soft sand soon. I've heard of people driving stock subarus and stuff in it but every time I try anything in the sand I usually end up sunk up to the belly and having to pull out a shovel and back tract up to the harder ground. this is running on street tires... is there a better tire I can put on a subaru in stock form? also what psi should I have in the tires? any ideas? thanks,
  18. do NOT use any kind of electric vacuum, you may blow it up.
  19. why not just remove the drain plug, and then flush it out with something while the tank is on the car?
  20. cool looks like fun, need to get a bumper on that thing
  21. well I was out tonight making up my own course at a fred meyers parking lot between all the posts and stuff since we have some snow on the ground, "practiced" around it for about an hour and a half and also helped an employee get their vehicle started(karma points for the day...). Anyways, short of messing around more, driving with someone else etc... I'm wondering what I can do to learn about this type of driving while I'm just sitting here at home on the computer. Any good resources?
  22. its cool, if I can get up and be on the road by 5 with my uncle for working at the ski races I'm sure I can do that for something a bit more fun :-) My wagon may or may not be good to go next sunday if you want to head up, but I'm hoping it is, I can get one of my friends to drive.
  23. hey you should let me know next time you guys are going, I cant drive but I want to get up there in the snow. Is that the hill we went up last time we went out together? the one that had a steep rocky climb? if you guys made it up that, or even better, DOWN it safely I'm impressed.
