  1. Thanks for the replies! Apparently the Tribeca only has 2 inches more floor to ceiling height in the hatch opening than my Forester. Not gonna work, oh well. :-\
  2. Hi all, I'm thinking of trading in my Forester for a Tribeca. I have a few questions I'm hoping you guys and gals can help with. My main reason for trading is I need a bigger storage space. Can anyone tell me what the height and width of the hatch opening is? (btw, I'm only interested in the 2008 5-seat Tribeca). Also, is there much more of a step-in height to the driver's seat? For any Tribeca owners, how do you feel about the vehicle? Thanks for all responses! Kevin
  3. Hi all, I have a few questions about Subaru's load leveler struts. Can they be installed on a 2000 Forester, and how much would they cost to install? The reason I'm asking is because I may need to have a trailer hitch and a wheelchair lift attached to the back of my car. I already talked to Subaru about the hitch, and they only have a Class I hitch. They told me to go to U-Haul for a stronger hitch. I am trying to find out if all this will be practical. A big concern is the tongue weight capacity, because the lift and wheelchair together will weigh about 300 lbs, and I think a class II hitch holds 350 lbs. Btw, I wouldn't be sitting in the chair when it is going up. I need it to get to and from my car. Thanks! Kevin
  4. Noticed how much the grill of the Tribeca resembles the front of the Bugatti Veyron. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dsYKVoFkvHQ (nice toy)
  5. Some tire rambling: Still have the original Geolanders on my '00 Forester with good tread life left. I have read good things about Goodyear Assurance Comfortred all-season tires. Never had good luck with Michelin tires on my old Honda. I was told that was because they were made for high performance, not long life. Had a set of Dunlops last 80,000 mi. on my Celica. Replaced them with same tires, don't think I got 40k. End of rambling.
  6. One more list, Subarus are 3 of top 13 safest: http://money.cnn.com/popups/2006/autos/iihs/index.html
  7. Forbes, 2007 safest cars. http://www.forbes.com/vehicles/2006/04/28/safestcars-acura-volvo_cx_dl_0501feat.html 2007 least safe cars. http://www.forbes.com/vehicles/2006/10/30/safety-cars-airbags-forbeslife-vehicles-cx_dl_1031lsafe.html
  8. Even if the Audi was taken out of the video, I would be impressed with the capabilities of that Subaru. I AM impressed with how my Forester gets through the worst conditions, while other cars are stuck in the snow. And how much more do Audi's cost? That's all the info I need!
  9. You don't need to understand the language in this video to enjoy it!
  10. I had an o2 sensor replaced under recall. A week later the check engine light came on. No loss in performance. I find it happens if the gas cap isn't on tight enough, and don't 'top off' the tank when you fill up. Learned to live with the light on occasionally. Just my experience, your mileage may vary.
  11. I've owned an MG, Chevy Impala, Toyota Celica, Honda Accord, '98 Forester, and now 2000 Forester. The Subies are by far the best all-around vehicles I've ever owned next to the Chevy. (Talking about a '70 Impala which ran forever). I say keep the Forester and run it into the ground!
  12. I had a '98 Forester, now have an '00 Forester. I'm 5' 11" tall and there is tremendous headroom left. I did not have HG leaks in either car, but also don't put much mileage on. Only 36,000 on the '00. Have to agree, rear seat legroom is lacking in the Forester, but you're not sittin' back there, You mention off-roading, and I think the '98 OB had more road clearance than the Forester but not sure. I did have front CV boots replaced last year, was surprised at that with such low mileage. I love my Forester, it is extremely comfortable, and I have a very bad back which precludes driving many cars, but no problem driving this car. Not having driven an OB, can't make a true comparison, just my thoughts on the Forester. Good luck!
  13. I would guess it wears the brakes down faster too. A friend who has driven my car says it's faster off the line than his Acura NSX. Heck of a lot cheaper too.
  14. Exactly! I've read similar things before. Once it's at speed it runs fine, just that touchy pedal from take-off. Oh well, lived with it this long. Thanks for the reply!
  15. You could look at it that way, but it could also mean the idle is too fast. I should have described it as more of a lurching forward, and the shocks feel like they hit their stops. In general, I think it wastes more gas, and is not great for the mechanicals over a period of years. I have spent a lot on keeping my Forester maintained, but as I mentioned, it's more of an annoyance than a serious problem.
