  1. I have what i thought was a 2001 model year legacy 2.5 lt. According to the service booklet for it the timing belt is to be done at 60,000 miles for MY2001 but at 45,000 miles for MY2000. I have also seen a spec in a US manual for 105,000 miles. Previously I had the belt changed @ 60,000 miles and it was OK. Yesterday @ the 90,000 mile service the main Subaru dealer changed the belt saying for my model it was 45,000 mile intervals. This despite the fact that when they did the 45,000 mile service before they did not change the belt! Surely for 2000 and 2001 the belt would be the same and thus be changed at same interval? Based on my previous experience I think I will stick to a 60,000 mile interval. Where can I get definative info for my particular car and how do I determine which model year it is? I guess Subaru UK would be the best place? My local dealer seems confused!!
  2. Does anyone know of UK source for s/hand parts? Need a replacement rear wash wipe motor for the 2001 Lecagy.
  3. Currently got original battery in my motorbike - 12 years / 80,000 miles and and still going. Soob on its original one at 5 years / 78,000 miles and my recently scrapped Saab did 9 years on its original and 6 years on the second all in 180,000 miles
  4. I had this problem too on my Legacy estate. My local garage told me this is quite a common problem. They took outside light unit off (its one piece I believe and can require some heat to allow the mastic to come free) and resealed it with fresh mastic when replacing it. Now I have no more leaks. -
  5. The drop links are desribed on my invoice as "front roll bar links" Hope this helps. As far as I can ascetain there seems to be no effect on steering.
  6. I had a lot of clunking from the front and rear of my 2.5 Legacy (2001) 75,000 miles. Noise started around 60,000. My local independent garage diagnosed worn drop links and I had the rear ones replaced. This quietened the rear completely but I still had noise from the front (passenger side is worst sounding). Recently I had the front drop links replaced but there has been no change in the noise level. Get a clunk whenever encounter pot holes/ bump in road even when going straight ahead. Especially noticeable going along my farm access road to the house where car has to ride through potholes. Have checked the suspension by bouncing corners of the car but cant hear anything. Have also done a search here on "clunk" but this only furthers my confusion. Could it be the front sway bar -- are there any easy checks I can do? Thanks in advance for any input.
  7. My last front tyre picked up a puncture and when I changes it I was surprised to see that on the inner 2" of the tyre there was absolutely no tread - it was smooth. Decided to look at the other front and it was the same. I had not rotated the tyres at all but I assume from this that I should. I have also read some threads discussing tyre rotation and it seems a must on Subarus. I had about 20,000 miles on the tyres.
  8. First post on the board - so hi to all. Problem with leak - done search on previous posts but cant find what I am looking for. Hope someone can help. I have a Legacy (estate we call them in UK, I think in US its a wagon) 2001. When it rains I get the rear light clusters filling with water, when you open and raise the rear gate the water runs out of the inside access covers for the lights. I have tried to remove the light cluster assembly from the outside cause it looks as if there is a rubber gasket and I assume that is where the leak is. However despite removing 4 nuts that I think hold it on I just cant get it to come off. I assume there are other screws, nuts holding it in place, but i cant see them. Can anyone help. Is this a common problem with these cars? Whats the solution?
