  1. I guess I am looking to do it this week at the dealer... so, say I don't get the water pumped changed this time. If the pump goes bad with the new belt, it could screw up the new belt and thus cause engine damage?
  2. Thanks, folks! I guess I am leaning to go with the dealer... but I am still interested in what shops people recommend for Subaru in the PDX Metro.
  3. So, the dealer says $450 to change all the belts, including the timing belt. This other guy at different shop tells me that he guarantees me that the water pump would need to be changed, too (and a few other things he mentioned that I can't recall) for $1200. I'm at about 110K miles on this car, it seems to be running fine. Nobody has looked at it yet, I'm just shopping around for estimates because I know it's about time for a timing belt. I got a new radiator less than a year ago. Anyway, any advice? I'd appreciate it!
  4. Hi there... I need new tires for my wife's Subaru. I have a hole in the right rear tire on the outer sidewall. It's plugged for now, but I guess I need 4 new tires soon. The tires on there now are 215/45z417. The sticker inside the door says these are the stock size tires, but I was hoping I could get away with a higher profile tire without causing problems with the vehicle. So, what do you think? Am I best staying with the stock size, or could I go higher without problems? -Neanderthal P.
  5. I'm in Vancouver. Where exactly is the fuel pump on these things? I looked underneath and didn't see it.
  6. I drove this car regularly, then several months ago after it sat for about 3 weeks, it began having trouble starting due to a low battery. I jumped it, and drove it around some, but then after I'd park it for a few minutes, it wouldn't want to start. I was able to get it started with starting fluid, but couldn't drive it every day as I deemed it to be an unreliable vehicle. So every few weeks, I'd jump it, use the starting fluid to get it started, and drive it around some. I did this about three times. The other day I tried to do it again, but this time, I could not keep it started. It seemed to burn the starting fluid, and then die. I guess it could be a lot of things, maybe a pump, or a sensor, or maybe fuel injectors? I put a bit of fuel stabilizer in it and that didn't seem to help. Put a couple of gallons of fresh gas and still nothing. I like to drive this car in the winter, and winter is coming up, so I want to get on it. What should I do next?
  7. I think I read it in the manual that I bought. Those need to be removed to drain all of the coolant out. But if there is an easier way or if that is overkill to do it that way, then of course, I won't even bother trying to remove them.
  8. Hi, I have a 1991 Loyale, and I guess there are two bolts that need to be removed to drain coolant from block. What size hex wrench is to be used here? Thanks! -NP:burnout:
  9. Thanks, I will have to check that out. Any ideas about the other problems?
  10. I have a wire coming off of the transmission on a 91 Loyale that leads to nowhere. On the wire there is a little contraption in the circuit. Also there is a ground wire just hanging off a bracket not connected to anything. The wire off of the mystery contraption reaches the mystery ground wire, but I'm not sure if they are supposed to connect. Some of the things that are wrong with my car are: *AC / heater fan only works on high. * 4WD light on dash does not illuminate. * clock doesn't work. *oil pressure gauge doesn't work. I'd like to fix all of these things, and a good start I think would be to make sure everything is connected properly.:confused::confused:
  11. Chains in Freezing Rain Is my 91 Loyale going to need chains in freezing rain?
