  1. '03 Outback sedan. Have to replace the break all around, rotors, and calipers are sticking on the frount. Is this normal? It seems a little early to me. Joe
  2. Help me out there Blitz. So what you are saying it could be in the wiring between the sensor and the ECU? How would I check that?
  3. I have a '03 Outback H6. Back near the first of June I had a hesitation at highway speed. The CEL came on and the independent repair shop I use said it was due to a bad throttle body position sensor. It was replaced with a Subaru part and the car ran fine for about 1100 miles. I noticed the same symptoms on my way home this morning. Same hesitation and the idol not coming down as you come to a stop. So I feel it is the same problem. The CEL has not come back on yet though. My question are; Is this most likely the same problem? Can I, as a home mechanic replace this sensor? Is there anything I should be aware of? Or should I take it back to the shop and deal / argue with them about a possibly bad replacement part. Thanks Joe
  4. Yea,,, thanks there Tex but I think I am going to pass on the ole bicycle inner tube thing. Maybe it would work but not exactly my style. I am going to give the Mityvac a shot though. Thank you Porcupine, I think you've stuck a quill in my break bleeding situation. I'll report back. Joe
  5. Thanks for the info all. Not to:horse:but I think I am going to buy one and give it a try, if I am not happy I will go to speed bleeders. Just a little more info though if you don't mind. Porcupine(?) mentions Teflon goop I think it is. Can you give me some more information on that? Is it like pipe dope plumbers use? Or is it more like Teflon tape? Also I know there will be an order of bleeding but any suggestions? Furthest from the master cylinder first? Closest first? Or does it not really matter? As always thanks Joe
  6. Is the Mityvac system the only one out there for changing my break fluid? If it is, is it as easy as it appears? Any additional pointers or help would be appreciated. Joe
  7. Well here is an update on the Onstar system. I contacted a GM dealer and they were friendly and helpful but could not answer any questions about the system. So I contacted Subaru of America service rep. I was told by them that this car has an older version of Onstar and the newer software from Onstar does not recognize this older version. But wait, now my question is this; Does anyone out there have a Subie with an active Onstar account? The car is only a 2003 and was origanally sold in October of '03 so thats only a little more than 2 years old. It must be a very recient update and they left all of us out in the cold. I am checking further and will let all know. Joe
  8. I have a factory installed Onstar in my '03 OB sedan. I bought the car used and have contacted Onstar / Verizon about getting the service, they tell me they don't have records showing my car is recognized by their system and that I have to contact a dealer to activate it. I called the local Subaru service and this person told me she didn't even know Subaru's came with Onstar. Well I ended that conversation right then, thanks for your time. Can anyone elaborate on this? I have no idea about Onstar except what I read in the brochure and the web. Does the system have to be "turned on" by a dealer or can I go somewhere else or do it myself? As usual all help is appreciated. Joe
  9. I just replaced the oem filter with a K&N and just wanted to post this.... First I know the reputation for K&N products, high quality and they meet your expectations but this is a first for me. The instructions, yes I said instructions, for an air filter change, wanted me to remove the entire air box to replace just the filter. This is a straight up filter only exchange. I could not believe it. This is not a rant or a rave (Craig) just WOW. All I did was remove the top cover, pull the old out, put the new in, made sure all was in place including the little tabs that hold the lower side on, and put the cover back on correct. Oh yes then I put that little sticker on telling everyone I have a K&N product in my car. Just to keep everything in perspective this is a stock '03 Outback sedan H6 3.0. I have changed to Mobil 1 5W30 for the winter and run the medium grade gasoline. I am getting 25.7 - 26 mpg now and hope to get a little more with the high flow filter. Most all is highway 65 - 75 mph. Joe
  10. I have looked at my owners manual and done some research over at cars101 but I cannot find when to change my transmission fluid. The manual and the other web site only show an inspection needed every 30,000 miles. I would assume this is something more than a fluid level check but I don't know. The added part to this question is; when I change and I want to go with synthetic what would be the recommendation? Would someone please shed some light on this dilemma for me? I am getting my stuff together for the 30,000 mile check. Oh yea its a 2003 Outback sedan H-6, 3.0. Thanks, Joe
  11. Hey all, New poster here and a second time Subaru owner. I currently have a '03 Legacy H3 and I have a question about the anti lock break system. My driveway is currently covered with ice so I thought I would test things out. I got to about 15 MPH and hit the breaks hard. The car stopped fine and stayed completely straight. I felt the "chattering" on the pedal that is supposed to be there ...right?... but I also heard a whirring type of sound almost like a small electric motor running. That is the noise I am not familiar with. Can anyone give me some information on this? If you guys are like any of the other boards I visit (Harley Davidson, 1911's, garden tractors just to name a couple) someone will have a answer for me. Thanks in advance Joe719
