  1. The switch on the steering column works properly. I'll try disconnecting the battery for an hour. Thanks.
  2. I've been trying to sort out why the parking lights stay on, even with the parking light switch on the steering column turned off. I pulled a fuse out of the keyless remote wiring harness, and the parking lights go out, but the keyless remote is now disabled. I've tried repeatedly to reset the keyless remote, using the programming button on the wiring harness, turning the ignition on, holding the button down until the locks cycle, then pressing the "lock" button on the remote. Parking lights still on. Any suggestions? Replace the keyless entry control module?
  3. Thanks for the input. Like many of us, I tend to look for complicated solutions to these things, when beginning with the simplest fix is always the best place to start. Ron
  4. Hello all, My wife has a '97 Outback with 100,000 miles on it. It had the common "binding in tight turns" problem a few months ago. I put the FWD fuse in, and the problem disappeared, so I had the transmission fluid and filter changed at the dealership. No more problem- for a while. Now, after driving for 10 - 15 minutes, there's a gradually increasing shudder coming from (I think) the transmission. That makes me suspect the clutch pack in the rear of the tranny, maybe brought on as it heats up. Am I on the right track? I understand that the fuse activates the Duty C solenoid, so it doesn't seem to be the problem (I'd get a trouble code for that ). My concern is that the clutch pack was damaged during the torque binding. Any ideas? Thanks, Ron
  5. I tried the fuse in the FWD socket, and no more bind. Had the ATF replaced at the local Subaru dealership (they don't recommend flushing the tranny) and problem solved. Thanks everyone! This forum is great!
  6. Well, it looks like my assessment of the problem not only didn't hit the nail on the head, I wasn't even using a nail! Thanks all- I'll try the diagnostics you've suggested. I'm thinking that I'll probably have to replace the clutch pack-this has been going on for several months. I'll let you know what happens. Ron
  7. I've got a "97 Outback Limited with the winter package. I'm getting a "thunking" sound from the rear when iI turn in either direction. I've changed the oil and friction additive in the rear diff, but no change. I think the rear diff has a limited slip package, and if so, it's probably shot. I guess my next step is to replace it. Any ideas? Thanks, Ron
