  1. i have developed a rattle in the rear door of my 99 outback sport. initially i thought it was the window ratteling or possibly something loose in the door panel. After loser inspection it seems the entire door is rattling around in its own latch. I presume that this could be caused by a loss of tension in the pistons that help raise the door, resulting in a slopy latch connection. When i put pressure against the door the rattle stops. does this sound familliar to anyone? does it seem like a likely fix to replace the pistons? if so where can i get them? Thanks For your input.
  2. thanks for all the support, I finally located a dealer with the snout kit in stock. It seems the company who makes the kit (PDM) went out of business, and so now the kits are hard to find, at least in my area of Florida. (subarus arent as widely found here as in the north where the AWD comes in handy for winter weather) Anyway Crisis Averted!! Thanks
  3. This solution looks viable, however, I cant find a distributor on the internet. Has anyone purchased one lately? Can anyone direct me to a website? Thanks for the assistance.
  4. While installing a new clutch kit on my 99 Outback Sport I ran into a problem... The Input shaft housing in the transmission is heavily worn, the T/O Bearing wore out and so while clutch was engaged it was rubbing against the shaft creating a pronounced grove. I can replace the throw out bearing, however im not sure if the shaft housing in this transmission can be replaced, and if not, can it be repaired? Your thoughts are appreciated...
  5. The rattle in the clutch is from the throw out bearing. I dropped the transmission today . There is a twist to this problem however, the shaft that the t/o slides on is worn on its top surface. The T/O bearing wore out and began to ride on its edge creating a grove in the shaft. The T/O bearing rattles in this grove when the clutch is engaged. This shaft is an integral part of the transmission and im not sure if there is a way to replace it or repair it without buying a new transmission. Any feed back on this would be appreciated...
  6. I have exactly the same problem with my 99 impreza outback sport. A rattle in the clutch that sounds like a low growl or vibration during low engine RPM's. the rattle goes away when i press just slightly on the clutch petal. Ill investigate the throwout bearing possibility, i have a feeling the clutch is manual...
