  1. Thanks for the info! i think i'll give it a go a see how it turns out! I was planning on just using the outback driving lights.. I'll let everyone know how it turns out!
  2. Has someone done this before so i know for sure it will fit??
  3. I've got a 99 legacy gt with a broken bumper cover and i was thinking i would replace it with an outback cover so i could have the bigger round lights and be a little different.. does anyone know if a 96 outback front bumber cover will fit on my 99 legacy gt?? Are they the same?? thanks in advance!!
  4. Getting ready to have a hitch installed on 99 legacy gt and wondered if anyone had any suggestions about which one to buy or not to buy!! Ya, I know.. buy the one that comes with a new clutch, right!! Anything else? thanks.. Elliott in Idaho
  5. It acts like it wants to start.. it turns over and pops like it's back firing.. the belts look perf to me!! when I set the dist back in where should the rotor be pointing?
  6. So I've done the timing belt install about 5 times now and it still wont start!! I was just talking to a friend and he thought the alt needed to be spinning to engage the fuel pump? Is this right? Will it or will it not start without the alt belt installed?? 87 loyal 1.8 carb auto nonturbo... Thanks...
  7. I've checked and double checked the belts and the marks and it still won't fire!! It almost sounds like it wants to but doesn't.. It turns over and pops!! I wish I wouldn't have pulled the dist but thought I should check after getting advice to do so.. I've done the pull #1 plug, insert finger to achieve TDC test and have that correct.. So before re-installing the dist, I alligned the bottom dimple with the line on the dist case and when I slide it in and as the gears mesh, it makes a slight rotation.. Is this OK? And what direction should the rotor be pointing? Also, before my first two attempts to start it I re-installed everything, rad, pully belt and everything else.. Do I need to do this every time I think I have it or should it temporarly fire without all that? Any subaru guys in boise have a free hr. or two and like kind beers??? Thanks...
  8. 87 Loyal GL, 1.8 carburated 4x4.. This is what I got from the book and did, 4 times!! Alling 3 marks on flywheel, allign right (passinger)side cam sprocket with marks. Install right side belt.. Turn crankshaft clockwise one full rotation and re-alling three marks on flywheel again.. Allign leftside (driver) cam sprocket with marks and install belt.. Still doesn't start!! Am I missing something? I've got healthy spark to dist but won't fire and start!! Any ideas?? Anyone?? Do thes things bend valves when the belts break? Thanks!! Elliott in Boise..
  9. Well I popped off the timing cover and found a broken belt!! At least now I know what the problem is!! So I've pulled the grill, rad, timing covers and hope to finish it up tonight!! It looks like I need to remove the middle pully to complete the job?? Is there anything I should know going into this?? I've gotten a better/newer book that pretty much shows how it goes but if anyone has any advice, I'd love to hear it!! I don't plan on replacing the two side timing covers but should I put the center one back on??Thanks for all the help!! Elliott In Boise!!
  10. It's a carbed model.. and I guess i should start checking grounds and loose/cracked/burnt wiring!! Thanks for all the help!! I'll be checking back if anyone has any other input and will let everyone konw what the problem was once it's fixed and running!!
  11. No, I have not found the problem yet!! I tried the bypass method mentioned above and didn't get a spark from the coil! Must be the coil?? I wonder it there is anything between the battery and the coil I could check besides the fuse under the dash?? It's too dam hot to be doing this!! Any more ideas would be very much appreciated!! Elliott in Boise!!
  12. Thanks.. I'll try replacing the coil!! my coil wires are (1)black w/white stripe w/ red connector and (2) yellow no stripe w/white connector?? What one is possitive/negitive?? thanks.. Are there any other relays/fuses anywhere? thanks...
  13. 87 loyal 1.8 non-turbo 4X4 wagon..I was driving in the heat yesterday and all of a sudden it just died! I've checked the fuses under the dash and there all good. Checked the three (green, red, black) wire fuses next to the battery and there good.. Checked to see if I was getting spark from the coil and I'm not!! Are there some relays/circut breakers somewhere I missed?? Any way to check if the coil blew? Any ideas? Thanks!!
  14. Actually the rubber boot around the piston is riped and partially missing?? What now??
  15. In the process of changing out front brake pads on a 1986 gl wagon and didn't realize I needed a special tool (I have it now) to compress and turn in piston.. So last night before I realized this, I pressed on the piston a little with a big C-clamp!! Does anyone think I might have damaged the threads in the piston??? Thanks in advance!!
