  1. Anyone know if all Justy front drive flanges, or hubs are the same? My car is a '90 and I can get one off an '88 car. This is the part the wheel bolts to, with the spline inside. Thanks.
  2. My '93 Legacy has a VSS#1 fault, the tailshaft one, and it has AWD working well. The problem I have is the auto won't upshift on it's first shift up from start. I think the ECU tries to find the VSS and after a bit decides that it's not there and goes for a base trans map instead of a closed lop map.
  3. My '93 Legacy has some problems with it's auto seatbelts, you get in and turn the key and they don't always close, they might sit there for a few minutes before moving. Is there a switch or something I can rebuild or adjust to fix this? Thanks. (Hope I'm not wearing you guys out with all these questions!!)
  4. My '01 Impreza RS has cold clutch shudder, but warm it never seems to be a problem. You definately have to be careful on a cold start with the thing, it's slip range is very narrow like a race clutch is. My take on the problem is that the car has a lightweight flywheel, my 4.3 S10 truck has a massive flywheel and it's impossible to stall, the inertia of the flywheel makes up for the lugging down of the driveline loads. Another thing, I feel the EJ25 has very little power at 1000 rpm, try to take off at this rpm cold and it's shudder city. use 1300 and you are fine. While on the subject, the car got clutch slip at 20k miles, I checked the freeplay on the clutch pedal and it had none! I adjusted it to the manual's specs and all was well. The car has like zero freeboard as factory spec. Unusual.
  5. FWIW, you can buy a hydraulic press from Harbor freight for $99, that might make the DIY bit more appetising....
  6. Yes, I found the sensor, held in place with one 6mm bolt. Couldn't see the wire connectors though, on top of the trans.
  7. Yep, you hit on it, I had noticed the right front wheel would rub the rear inner plastic fender, I thought there was something going on there, but hadn't checked it out. Tonight I jacked it up and got measuring, the lower control arm is bent a little, like it got a front or sideways hit before, it's not really noticeable if you look, but the rear mount had the rubbers sort of squishing out in a strange manner, I measured it and it was shorter than the left one. I tried jacking it straight in place, no way, too strong. I'll have to pull it off and straighten it or get another one. Are they a pain to get off? The front pivot bolt has a rubber that looks like it the bolt could rust in place in the bushing and not come out.
  8. '93 Turbo Legacy, I asked before about the automatic's VSS, someone said that the rear one is accessible to replace, I looked under the car yesterday and couldn't see anything that looks remotely like it. Does someone know where it's located, tricks to replace it, and is it available from an auto parts place or will it be a dealer only item? Thanks to all in advance.
  9. The major issue with the Turbo Legacy is fuel economy, it is totally pathetic, often around 15-17mpg. Yes, my Turbo Legacy seems to get maybe a little better mileage than that, but not much. Any idea of why they do poorly in this respect? I had a Porsche 944 Turbo, 217 hp, 2.5L engine, it got quite a bit better economy that that. Is the Legacy running a tad rich maybe? AWD losses?
  10. So this is a very different handling car to my Impreza then. The Impreza will understeer in wet situations, even after I changed the rear bar for a 20mm one. The suspension is stock, as far as I know. The tyres are in pretty good shape, not the best for performance I don't think, but should be ok. Car has 126k on it, in reasonable shape. I will jack it up tonight and just check for something loose, just in case. The thing just caught me by surprise a bit with the back end stepping out, a lot easier than I thought it should. Sort of felt like a toe link was "rubbery" if you can imagine...!
  11. Hello, my '93 turbo Legacy seems to do some unusual stuff in the wet, hasn't snowed here that much yet to know if it is worse in it too, but when you throw it into a corner pretty fast, under trail braking situations, the car tends to oversteer quite badly, this is the back end stepping out, when you apply power it straightens out mostly, but the stepping out bit is quite bad I think. My Impreza does nothing like this, but it's a manual transmission car, 50/ 50 split, the Legacy is an auto, was wondering if the 90/ 10 thing has something to do with this, making it a lot like a FWD car until you apply power. The rear tyres have good tread on them, maybe something in the suspension arms worn or loose? Hmmm....
  12. Hey Josh, I did the trans power light check you described on your website, the thing came back with a code 32, VSS#1. Possible that is connected with my initial upshift problem as well? Any idea of: Hom much a VSS sensor is, and: how hard is it to get to the VSS to change it? Thanks again, David.
  13. Helpful as always, Thanks, I'll check the codes, this may have something to do with my first gear initial upshift problem as well.
  14. There is a "Power" light on the dash that flashes for maybe 10 seconds when I start the car, I never see it light up any other time, I thought it was an indication that the automatic was in power mode. Any ideas? Thanks.
  15. Hmm, you are probaby right, when I bought this car new, I remember the brochure saying it was an amp/ subwoofer, I never stopped to think that it was an amp FOR the subwoofer that is mounted in it. It's a pretty poor sub if you ask me, you need at least level 24 volume to even know it's there! I had intended to add a main power wire from the battery to the Punch. From what you're saying, there are no RCA outputs, as usual for a stock system? The Punch doesen't have anything but RCA inputs unfortunately.
  16. Hey, while on this subject, I have a 2001 Impreza RS, I would like to replace the stock amp that's under the driver's seat with a Fosgate Punch 45 I have lying around. I don't want to cut up the original connector in the Impreza, nor will I cut the Fosgate's lead. Crutchfield doesen't sell an adapter pigtail for this, anyone know of a way, short of finding a broken Subaru amp and cutting the lead off it?
  17. Thanks guys, I'll open the thing now and see if the drains look like they might be blocked, otherwise I'll pull the rails up a bit and try to get some sealant under them. It's like 28 degrees here now, so maybe no more leaks, it's proabaly frozen! If I didn't say this before, this is one of the most helpful message boards I have EVER seen, you guys are cool!
  18. Hello, I'm the one that bought that Legacy a few weeks ago, it's now rained here a bit and I found the sunroof leaks, it seems to leak anywhere on it, not just one corner. Anyone have a fix, apart from a new seal, and if there aren't any easy fixes, any idea how much a new seal is? Thanks.
  19. OK, this makes sense, I'll try it tomorow morning, let you know if it was any different. Thanks.
