  1. quote=msteel;470149] Well, I closed everything up and cranked it over, but it turned over really rough and wouldn't start. It turns out, a piece of the dust seals fell off the cover while putting the cover back on (it was the piece next to the water pump where you can't see a thing). So when I cranked it over the piece of rubber must have traveled around the cam sprocket and put it off by two teeth before falling into the bottom of the covers. The belts were fine but it took at least an extra hour to take it apart and redo the belts and covers. Conclusion that supports covers off: If I had left the covers off I wouldn't have had this problem. Conclusion that supports covers-on: Getting something as soft as a piece of rubber in your belt can make the car not run, without breaking the belts. P.S. I triple checked the timing marks before I put everything back together to make sure I had it right. That's my story and I'm sticking to it! Wish I read this way before my boyfriend/personal mechanic started on the timing belts... Exact same thing happened to my '87 gl wagon !! It would've saved him time and me the grief of hearing him call her 'the hunk of junk' after working on her for 2 days...No matter what he says...I still love my scoobyru and him even more for resurrecting her:)
  2. Thank you so much for the advice and I am so very grateful for the pdf's, I failed to mention that my boyfriend was diagnosing the car using his ohm meter. The part that I mentioned that was underneath the coil is described as a transistor. My boyfriend found one at a salvage yard and that unfortunately wasn't the problem. It was the horn fuse:eek: ...why in the dickens would this not be mentioned in a regular haynes manual???? Thank goodness I found this wee little factor on the forum...you guys are awesome:banana: ! It is great to be on the road again
  3. Color me oh so confused...have no spark...replaced igniton coil..still no spark...just replaced ignition coil bracket with ignitor for 1987 gl wagon...non turbo...again no fire...found a part that is labled part # 6w04 250 v and .47 uf..has power going in not out...my question is A) what is the proper term for this part and besides a salvage yard where can I locate another part ...been looking for a while and I love my scoobydo and can not even fathom parting with her she has been more Loyale than any of my former spouses and former beaus...thank you for your help!!!!
  4. Skip, I appreciate the diagram and info, you have been extemely helpful in solving my problem. I now see the Light!!!! Chris
  5. Actually I did check all of the relays and bought the sylvania lifetime warrantied halogens. I appreciate the advice and my knowledge on vehicles is above norm for females, although I am still a novice:-\ . Just a fyi, I worked at chief auto parts for a yr and a half and can actually identify parts under a hood. Also had a father who made sure his daughters could do minor repair and maintenance on vehicles before we got a license. When it comes to wiring, it looks like spaghetti to me. Currently I am searching for ground. Thanks again for the info.
  6. Scrub2k, Filament is okay, will seek ground. Thanks
  7. Desperately seeking the light for my 1987 gl wagon. I hit a speed bump and the lights went out then I hit another one and they came back on. Then I hit one bump too many and have only hi beams on my halogen bulbs. Already replaced bulbs twice and the spendy relay under the dash that the dealership kindly offer no refunds on:madder: !!!! Ofcourse I replaced every fuse I could find. Please help me before I permanently blind someone:brow: , just kiddin, I tilted headlights down with duck taped wrapped cardboard in between lights and frame. Although if I get stopped and the police look under the hood, they might think its contraband. Open to economical suggestions, on the headlights, ofcourse. Thank You Chris
  8. About those headlights, own '87 scooby gl wagon, hit a bump and low beams went out yet the hi beams work and already replaced lamps twice:cornfuzz: replaced the ultra spendy lamp relay from dealership (No refunds) :madder: any suggestions????? Thanks in advance, Chris
