  1. nah... the mounts are good. it was all on account of a dry, crusty u joint that i should have replaced a long time ago. but oh well... the car paid for itself already by saving me gas money! i dont really mind dropping some cash on it from time to time to take care of these problems. although ,i suppose i now know what its limitations are when it comes to neglect
  2. the carrier was fine... although im sure i will replace it once i get the monster back home. and yes, the actual tailshaft broke. most likely got in a bind when the joint went. hopefully on friday when i have the day off ,ill be able to tow it home and commence to repairing my fuel concious savior. till then im stuck with my v8 dakota. oh yeah.. i was in 4 whell drive when this all occured. since i live in the arctic i tend to use this more since there is snow on the ground and the roads are icy just about 6 months a year. hee hee... ive never seen a jeep at 70...jk
  3. ok.. so i was running downhill ,about 65 and went to pass some dude in a ford and the front u joint blew out on my 4wd 89 gl. man there was some carnage involved! it took out the muffler, took out the yoke and hit the shift linkage and broke all the bolts out of the shift tower. broke all the plastic on the console when this happened and even threw my coffee cup up to the ceiling and got all over me! once i got it up in the air to inspect the depth of the problem i found that the tailshaft on the tranny was broke about 3 inches back from the seal.sooo... anyone around fairbanks got one i can get for cheap?
  4. does anyone make a kit for the gl that plugs into the existing harness to hook up trailer lights, or do i just need to splice everything in? i just got ahold of a nifty new hitch and need to wire up the 4 pin.
  5. i saw a post on here somewhere where someone put a chevy luv bumper on their brat. does anyone know of anything that might fit an 89 wagon, with out too much modification? just looking for ideas before i tear it apart to build a tow hitch.thanks
  6. iwas thinking that the vanagon looking thing-a-ma-bob would be great for camping.. just add a tongue in front...but wait , which end is front? any donors? i was even thinking that some 10" holes cut into strategic spots in the floor ,with some covers for traveling would work great for ice fishing...just add a little propane heater
  7. that has got to be the quickest response to any question ive ever had! even my wife doesnt answer me that quick when i have dumb questions... hahaha... thanks plenty.. i suppose i can live with it like it is.its only six months a year that i have to listen to it anyways:D
  8. a couple of weeks ago when the temps dipped to -20 , i put some card board in front of the radiator and also took my grille off and covered it with aluminum foil.. which it nice cause i can draw on it with a sharpie and make it like a vanity plate... it just adds to the trashiness .. what a difference it made! now im plenty toasty on my way to work in the a.m. although.. i leave it on defrog all the time because i dont like the warm air blowing in my face and i hate frogged up windows. o.k... now for the point of all my ranting.. why does the defrogger feel and sound like it blows harder at idle than it does under accelleration? kinda odd i thought.. but its my first soob
  9. the stereo you have there is out of a peterbuilt semi... or some caterpillar equipment of some type. your best bet would be to get the old harness out of the truck it was in or contact a semi truck dealer for the harness.
  10. doesnt anyone call it a 4 way anymore?
  11. mildewmobile! cause it sat under spruce trees for like a year before i bought it
  12. is it possible that the shifter from an xt {not the T handle type}will fit in my 89 gl. i like the style with the pushbutton on the top. i think i like that goofy steering wheel too. now, just where to find one around the here parts!
