  1. New to a 2005 3.0 Sedan as of a few weeks ago. Seems like the back-end can be upset when one of the back corners hit a bump/pothole (feels like it sways back in forth). Is this normal or do I have a shock or sway bar loose or a bushing going out? Car has only 12,000 miles on it. Thanks In Advance....
  2. Just wondering what indivduals with the 3.0 HO Outback are getting for gas mileage (City - Highway - Average)? Thanks In Advance...
  3. Thanks....Should be picking up tomorrow or later in the week (waiting for the next snow storm). I don't know of link works below but if does here's the next Subaru for the garage. http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.jsp?car_id=216233839&dealer_id=58274451&car_year=2005&model=SUBOUTBK&num_records=25&make2=&start_year=2005&keywordsfyc=&keywordsrep=&engine=&certified=&body_code=8&fuel=&search_type=used&distance=50&make=SUB&color=&min_price=&body_style=SEDAN&drive=&default_sort=priceDESC&max_mileage=&style_flag=2&sort_type=priceDESC&address=49428&advanced=&end_year=2005&doors=&transmission=&max_price=&cardist=0
  4. Looking at buying another Subaru (2005 3.0L HO Outback Sedan) with 11,000 miles on it. Clean Carfax on the vehicle. Got them down to $21,000. Anything I should be aware of on the 3.0 HOL (I'm aware of the premuim fuel). I'm a 1998 2.2L Legacy owner today and it's been a great car. Thanks In Advance.....
  5. I was under the impression that they were all season tires but now I'm questioning if they are now?
  6. Subaru Friends, First experence with snow in my daughter 98 Legacy L Auto Sedan. I would STRONGLY recommend that you stay away from the above tires for winter driving. The car was a handfull to stay pointed. Back-end would fishtail without even touching the gas going around a corner. I was worried to even let my daughter drive the car here in Western Michigan. Note these tires were brand new in June so they only had about 3000 miles on them I drive around 40,000 miles a year and consider myself a experenced driver in all conditions, and even I was considering putting in the fuse and making this a FWD car. I even put 150 pounds of sand in the trunk (going back to my RWD days). Puts some Michillin X-ICE on the Subaru yesterday. What a difference. Strongly recommend these tires. This cars is what I would expect from an AWD.
  7. Look for a recommendation of a reliable and knowledgeable Subaru Mechanic that's less expensive then the local dealership in the Grand Rapids Michigan area. Thanks In Advance.. Bill
  8. I have 98 Legacy (2.2L) with a auto trans. Car now has 107K on it (purchased it with 101K). I have know way if determining if the transmission fluid has been changed (other then it looks fine and smells fine). Car drives great and no issues with the transmission (other it seems to shift differently when warm, believe this is related to the overdrive or T converter programming ). In the pass I've know people that have changed the transmission fluid (typically at one of those quick oil change business or at a dealership) and shortly after that they had the car in because of transmission issues. What's the concensous here. If it's not broke don't touch it or there's value in purging the old and replacing it with new fluid? Thanks In Advance...
  9. Nipper, Thanks...And it does go away...And I used to teach my daughter there's value in letting the car warm up a little before taking off. Even if it's the time it takes to put your seat belt on and adjust the mirrors it better to let the oil and coolent move around before putting it in gear. Bill
  10. What's the indication of the AWD unit going out. I put new tires on the 98 when I bought it in April but I didn't check if the tires were mismatched. I know they were different brands? Thank In Advance... Bill
  11. Thanks for the reply. I was wondering about if it could be piston slap. Seems like it would do it without a load on it? Do you mean the parking light switch.... I cheated I went out and look in the owners manual. I don't even know the switch was there.... My wifes lease is up on her Grand Prix next May. Come January (I already started looking but don't tell her) I'm looking for another 95-98 Legacy to replace it. I've owned a lot of cars in my time and I can't remember one that I enjoy driving as much as this one and is as solid as this car is with 107K on it (and it started out as a rental car according to CarFax). I see myself owning a few more of these. I test drove a 2006 a couple of weeks ago, and it's a nice car but I still preferred the steering feel and control of the 98.
  12. I'm new to the Subaru world as of April 06 (daughter first car). I bought a 98 Legacy 2.2 with a auto trans and with 101K on it (now sitting at 107K+). I did all the maintenance new time belt - water pump - hoses - belts - new fluid in the transfer cases - etc. The car drives and performs great other then there's this metalic noise when you first put it in gear and start moving (doesn't do it much at all when it just sitting there running in park). But until it's warm, when you pull out and start moving, it will make this noise from a few seconds (stops if you lift off the gas). Once the car is warmed up, it never happens. It seems to be coming from the bottom of the engine. But once again I'm not sure. Is this anything I should be worried about? Car has plenty of power, doesn't burn any oil or trans fluid. I'd rather drive this them my wifes 2004 GTP Pontiac. Can't wait until winter. Did I say this was my daughters car.... I would rather drive the 98 Thanks In Advance...
  13. I just bought a 98 Legacy L 2.2L (101,000 miles) for $4,200 for my daughter (gets her licences next month). I put a new timing belt, water pump, T-Stat and the other maintenace item, for a little over $400.00. This is great car and drives likes it new. I can't wait until it starts snowing again so I can take her out in the snow (can't believe I just typed that, winter last for 9 months in Michigan and I love summer). I aleady put on over 3,000 miles on it (owned for about a month). Gas mileage is around 25mpg (city and highway). Bill
