  1. Glad I could help. Wish I had an XT6 that was driveable. Would love to know how they ride. I have one that I bought as a parts donor for an ER27 Loyale project. Most of the parts will be stripped and sold, same for the XT 1.8 NA car. Funny what 20 years of salt bath will do to sheet metal! LOL
  2. Not sure if these pics will help...I didn't check the terminus of the small blue wire except that one end goes into a wire loom headed toward the drivers side firewall and the other headed towards the passengers side fenderwell. I will have to check closer tomorrow when I am at work where the car is stored.
  3. Well, I got the XT6 hellofa cheap and it runs awesome, paid little for the wagon which has 258,000 on it, and I have lots of time and patience to boot. As for putting the radiator in front of the support, I had looked at that as being a feasible option since the wagon has no A/C and will be my 3 season car. May fabricate an "X" brace of 1/4" rod in front of the radiator corner to corner to give it some protection of sorts. Took the XT6 out for a short run tonight and now second gear is locking. I work at a tranny shop and my boss says the clutches are wore out and seizing together. I will have lots of XT/XT6 parts available soon! lol Thanks again for the helps!
  4. Thanks for the info! I'm sort of new to these Subie mods and was wondering if there is any way to use the 3.7 ratio components from the auto trans and put them to use in the manual setup. I guess I'm not sure how the cases are configured. Are they like a tranny/transfer case setup, or are they all or none case configurations? The 3.9 final drive would be OK, but it would be nicer to have 3.7 for economy since the 2.7L would have plenty of power already by itself. Everything in the XT6 works great, except the tranny which has foul smelling fluid, though it seems to shift fine. Also when I push the "low hold" button it locks the tranny as if I put full pressure on the brake pedal. Not sure what thats all about? It only has 135,000 on it. Unfortunately the underside spent too many WI. winters to be worth putting back on the road. Too bad. I appreciate any comments/suggestions in doing this swap
  5. I have an '89 XT6. I will look at my wiring tomorrow and send a pic of how mine is wired.
  6. Good point. We have about a 50% return rate for defective parts at our local supplier. Just cause its new don't mean its better than the one you took off nowadays.
  7. When you say the alternator "kicked the bucket", was it overcharging? I would have to guess if it were overcharging it may have fried a sensor somewhere maybe. Also have you checked ALL your ground wires for good contact? We see a lot of problems at our shop on new cars when even one bad ground is present. Wreaks havoc on tranny's too, big time.
  8. Been seriously thinking of this very same swap! With 16 years of autobody, I am sure I can hang the XT6 nose on the '90 loyale and have it look good. Not sure how DMV will like it, having two different serial #'s/bodies. The tranny is shaky on the XT6 (AWD) so I want to use the manual fron the loyale (pushbutton 4WD) and swap all brake hardwares. Anyone know about putting a manual behing the ER27. I need to get a definite answer to what trans will work with the ER27 before I start this (soon) lol Both cars are MPFI's so it should be a quick hookup.
  9. I don't know if this will help, but my first subaru ( an 85 DL wagon )I got really cheap cause of a leaking altitude compensator. The thing would act up sporadically. The previous owner had it to 5 shops, spent over $1000, changed disty 3 times, rebuilt carb 2 times, changed plugs, wires, cap, rotor 2 times, and a new fuel pump, filter, and 1 coil.He did the carb cleaner test looking for vacuum leaks at intake and all the obvious places. Then it would reapper for no apparent reason. Had normal vacuum readings till it acted up, then it would be all over the place, Then after a few days it would straighten itself out.It would buck and jerk convulsively at midrange but was fine at up to 1500 or full throttle. I had the car 2 mos. before I had a clue where to look. One day as it was acting up I went and got a jug of water and dribbled it all over the vacuum ports and lines and diaphrams. All of a sudden it straightened out and ran perfect for 3 or 4 minutes, then started all over again. So I poured water over the same spot and voil'a, it quit. Leaky ALTITUDE COMP. DIAPHRAM. Bypassed it with $3.00 worth of hose and caps and never had another problem! Next time I saw the guy I bought it from I told him what the prob. was. He kicked hisself right in the spongebob square pants!
  10. Thanks..I will look into it further in that case. Not really sure I need all the extra HP but would be fun. The party w/engine pulled all necessary components for swap and it alledgedly has 98,000 miles. He was going to do an aircraft project but deciuded against it and is asking for any offer. May offer 100 just to see.
  11. Hi, I'm new to subaru stuff and was wondering about an XT-6 engine I can get with low miles. Can it be put in a 85 wagon feasibly? I have many years of autobody/mech. exper. and it would be fun to try this. Anyone have some ideas? Thanks
  12. One of my dreams is to someday have a homebuilt aircraft! http://www.geocities.com/subaru_builders/
  13. If I drive nice with it it gets 30, but usually get 25. I lost ignition last weekend and had to dolly it 60 miles home. I'm hoping its timing belt related and not pickup coil/ distributor related. The parts bucket I bought (just before my driver died) has a sweet running EA82, but needs oil pump too. Gonna be busy gutting the parts bucket soon to save space in my garage. I had a 1985 DL wagon back in 2000 that got me hooked on Subaru's for life. Was thinking of fabricating a frame for the parts bucket and setting it up for a winter rig. as a mechanic and autobody tech I should be able to come up with some creative ideas! The parts bucket is an '86 GL and the driver is an '85 GL
