  1. Urrabus, I'm not sure this will help, but... I don't recall all of the connections on the back of the stock radio I bought. I know that there were some sockets that I did not use. I think some of these were for connections to add a multi-disk cd changer and perhaps an amplifier. Not being much of an audiophile, once I heard the radio working I didn't worry about the empty holes. Next, I know that AM and, I think, FM broadcasts in the US are on a different set of frequencies than in Europe. I once had an aftermarket am/fm radio that I had to throw a switch to the US setting; it gave instructions to set it the other way for Europe. I've no idea what they do in Japan, but perhaps this is the reason it didn't work in Scotland. Anyway, the trick setup is to put in an aftermarket unit so you're all set there!
  2. It appears to me to be the same. I bought a brand new, factory, stock, am/fm/cd deck off of eBay. It is exactly the same as the one in my 2003 Forester. I put the eBay deck into my 95 Legacy wagon and it plugged right in, the bolt holes were the same and everything. It was also a good time to replace all the burned out dash lights! So if it fits a 95, it should fit a 2003 and everything in between.
  3. I bought a 95 Legacy L wagon at 119K miles and it came with all the books, papers, etc., except for the maintenance schedule... you know, where the tell you what should be done at what mileage. The local Suby dealer found out I bought the car and sent me a maintenance notice for 120k miles but I want to know what they think should be done; then I'll do it myself or find a cheaper shop! Can anyone steer me to a place to get that schedule?
  4. Well, that helps me by half... When my center console lights work, they are nice and bright. But they only work half of the time! I got as far as removing the shift lever and pulling off the top cover but I couldn't see what to do next. How do I get down to the light bulb?
  5. I know most Subys use the same filter size, but like some have pointed out, different mfrs have different sizes. I finally found a collapsing filter remover; it is a spring loaded two sided affair that is driven by a 3/8" socket wrench. You spread it slightly to get onto the filter; turn the socket ccw and it tightens to grip the filter to remove it. This way it fits any oil filter (within reason; probably won't fit a Kenworth) and you don't end up with a collection of filter sockets that fit nothing you currently have, as I did.
  6. I had a similar problem though with a Toyota Camry; around 50, horrible shaking; slip it out of gear, shaking stopped; get on the gas again, more shaking. Turned out to be a rear wheel bearing needed replacing and a tire that was seriously out of round. I suspected the tranny at first, then motor mounts, but the bearing and tire took care of the problem.
  7. Bought my 95 Legacy and couldn't figure out if the heater buttons were burned out or non-existent. Thanks for all the info! Now, how about lighting for the shifter on an automatic? I have no lights on the console and there are no indicators on the dash. Is the way is it is supposed to be? And if not, how to change those bulbs?
  8. I dont have a solution, just a story. Used to drive my air cooled VW bugs in the dead of northwest Ohio winter, bugs of course being notoriously poor for heating. The windows would actually continue to build frost inside even after having driven 15 miles at 60 mph! I kept a scraper handy to clear front and side windows while driving!
  9. Thanks for all the advice, I'd definitely wrecked another dash without the info. Special thanks to alias20035 for the guide, it's excellent! I recommend it.
  10. I have a (new to me) 95 Legacy L wagon that I'd like to change the radio in. Having busted up a couple of Toyota radio surrounds before I figured out how they came apart, can anyone tell me how to remove the plastic piece around the radio to get to the retainer screws? Any help is always appreciated!
