  1. Thats right, I have a very solid 1978 wagon that I have to get rid of. This hurts alot, but it has to go. The car has being stored indoors for ten years and its loaded- factory a/c, factory brush bar, etc. If you are looking for a very solid Gen 1 restoration project this is your baby. The car needs a motor, but other than that it is all there with lots of spares. I have a friend who has a ATK rebuilt still in the crate- it is available for $400, but the car is free. The car is located in Atascadero, Ca. and will need to be trailered. If you are interested please give me a call John @ 805-440-7309. Please only call if you are serious, and serious about restoring it, as this is a very, very good example of a classic and in very good restorable condition. Its gotta go by August 7th, so let me know soon!!!
  2. well, we cant get em all rich, tis a bummer though. hows the 76 coming along? id very much like to see that thing. hey give those people your phone number at least because it may not be a ranch car for long. apparently the transmission was not long for this world. they may want to part with it sooner than later. hey you got any extra rims? the early white spoke jackmans by any chance? ill cross your palm with some scratch as they say.
  3. Yup,dats da one. dont pay too much-the car has some real problems- but it did have a running ea71 last i saw it! some other goodies too. dont know what your plan would be with it. if you part it (that rust is pretty bad) id like to buy some things. I dig the 76-great project and good find!!!
  4. hello subieguy-hey i just happen to be doing the same rust repair on my 78 wagon hatch. i popped the glass out last week, and this week im goin to try sand blasting followed by an application of "rust mort". this is what was recommended to me by my auto body teacher at school, but yeah i too may hav to do the cut, weld stuff which i seriously dont want to deal with. that 79 wagon if its the one im thinking of had a very good hatch but i dont know if its the same on a 76. if you track it down and its not the same please let me know. if its the 79 dl im thinking it is, i almost bought that but really could not take on another project and it was a project-tranny,smog,body work etc. but it definatley had some good bits and pieces. if you track the car down again please let me know. thanks!
  5. thanks for gettin back to me. yes i know mike aka subaru mike aka renaissance man. yeah he gave me an ea71 but it was one of the three that i stripped down to find the bad cylinder walls. so now ive got three cranks, heads rods pistons, all that stuff. ive definatly considered the bore over-oversized piston approach bot the only pistons available lower the comp ratio a little and were talkin hundreds of bucks in machining, parts etc. hey subieguy i see your in paso is your name Richard- i think mikes being tryin to introduce us for some time. Id like us all to get together sometime,my phone number is 805-440-7309 call anytime. thanks for the info, let me know if you guys hear anything.
  6. i need a good ea71 block desperatly. ive torn down three now and the problem has being blown head gaskets/rust pits in the cylinder liners. ive got plenty of heads, cranks, rods etc. but i need a good block. if anyone can help me ill pay good money for one as ive got a sweet 78 gl 4wd wagon thats waitin for it. i can be reached @ jjcockrell@hotmail.com or (805)440-7309. i remember when these things were all over the place, and ill never forget the 78 wagon i saw at the junkyard that had being skewered by the forklift!!! now i cry "my kingdom for an ea71 block" help me out if you can, ill make it worth your time!! im in california so the closer the better with shipping, etc.

  10. hello, does anyone know about the early forester head gasket problem? its open deck design is really crappy and blow more head gaskets than my 88 rx when i was pushing 12lbs of boost. this is set #3 so well see. i want to see what other options are available if any. for a later improved motor, such as out back etc. if someone knows thier EJs well please email me at jjcockrell@hotmail.com.
