  1. That's awesome that I am the first person ever! Yesssssss! I am familiar with all of the towns you listed above except for Tivoli. My folks live on Sleepy Hollow Lake in Athens and love towns like the above, so we have been to Hudson many times. Even Catskill is getting better. I was so sad last time we went to Woodstock because I hadn't been since I was a kid and it was totally different back then. Now it is very commercial and yuppy-ish. Rhinebeck is a bit of a disappointment as well, but is still a nice town nonetheless. See you around Ulster! If I am ever in the car I always wave to other modded Subies; wrx, or not. Dan
  2. Yeah baby! I knew you'd respond! I also figured you saw me pointing at your car to my wife lol. She liked it too and thought it was cool that you were reppin' the decals. Do you have any other Subies? I had my 95 Battle Wagon with us today because that's the dog's car. It's lightly modded but my pride and joy is my WRX that's an animal, but spends most of it's time either sitting at our house or in my folks' garage in Athens NY. We just randomly decided to take a ride to Bear Mountain to test out my new tires and hike with the dog. That turned into my sister-in-law calling us and telling us we had to go to the Muddy Cup in NP, so we did. I used to climb so I was there more frequently a few years ago, but I am sure we'll be back up there soon. We live in Peekskill but we love exploring small towns with lots of artful folk.
  3. Hey guys - My wife and I were up in New Paltz with our dog just walking around today and I spotted a 2000-ish light green wagon with nice wheels and a roofrack and tons of decals driving right by us. One of those Decals happened to be a USMB decal and another one was a NESIC (New England Subaru Impreza Club) Decal. I got very excited but before I got the chance to yell and scream, he was gone. Driver looked to be mid-late twenties and seemed to be from that area. Anyway, not a stalker or anything, but NICE CAR!
  4. It was a bad A/C compressor...evidently the junkyard one that was used as a replacement before I bought the car was crap too....oh well...took the belt off and I will just wait until the spring to replace it since I don't need a/c now...car feels like it gained some HP though which is nice, and the damn squeaking stopped.
  5. 105k and I just changed it last week. Now my idler pulley is possibly going LOL... so my car is all squeaKy...I kept the old timing belt and aside from just a little bit of marking and stiffness in the belt itself, it looks pretty good for an 11 year old 105 thousand mile piece of equipment.....Non interference is nice though because if it goes, all you have to pay for is the replacement and the tow:)
  6. Good call Gary... I will let you guys know when we check it out. - thanks for your help everyone!
  7. It is my 95 legacy....thats good to know. It sounds external to me so I am not too worried about the internal stuff. The timing belt was just replaced last week so I don't think it's anything internal. If it was, my mechanic would have told me I think.
  8. Okay so I recently developed the "cricket in the engine" sound which I believe from experience and from reading this forum, is the idler pulley. It gets louder and faster when I accelerate or when I hit the gas to rev in neutral. Almost barely audible when I come to a stop.....now my question is...do I have to fix this immediately, or can my car sound like a cricket for a couple of weeks without doing anymore harm? anyone know how much this little bastard costs? PS - if I am wayy off as to what this sound might be, please feel free to tell me what it really is.
  9. well the swaybars I can get for free or at most for 20 bucks a piece, so I might as well take them if I can get them. As for the struts, I was really thinking more of outback struts just because they raise the car up more and that's what I want without doing an aftermarket lift. I am not really going to use wrx parts because like you said, they aren't much different than what the car already has. I'd more like to replace everything with outback parts as needed. The reason why I wanted to know what year sturff works is because the 1995 outback was just a legacy with different trim and wheels...Starting in 1996 was when the real beefy outbacks came out and I wanted to know if the parts from a 1996-98 would fit a 1995. I know the cars physically look almost exactly the same but I just wanted to know if there were any internal changes besides the motor changes/updates. Also - my car started making a chirping sound today...very faint...sounds like its coming from the driver's side front under the hood or under the car somewhere....sounds almost like a cricket.....anyone know??? It's not loud, but it's very faint and annoying. ONly happens at lower speeds (or maybe I just can't hear it on the highway.)
  10. I need to know what springs/struts and what swaybars from what model subaru's will fit my 95 legacy L wagon without modification.... Reason being is because I need new struts soon, and I have access to oem parts........I just need to know what year parts from wrx's/legacy gt's/foresters will fit my 95.... will sways from a wrx fit a 95 legacy without modding??? Going the used OEM route would be a ton cheaper than all brand new stuff and if I can fit certain wrx/outback parts on the car, it would make it a bit beefier which would be an added bonus...only tell me what you know if you know the parts will fit for sure! Thanks! Ninja edit: my sways are pretty rusty and peeling, and the endlinks are pretty brittle....so that's why I want to switch them for newer ones.
  11. yeah I think it's the stuff they used to use..now it's synthetic and less potent or so I hear...HOpefully I will not ever need a new rear end.
  12. I figured it was common with the damn salt. See I actually wash the underbodies of my cars once a week during 3 out of 4 seasons, but I guess the numbnuts who had the car before me though that road salt is not abrasive! My WRX is SPOTLESS underneath and has 62k on it just because I take such good care of it. I just wonder why it's only the rear of the car that looks like crap....
  13. Hey guys I have been noticing a very wierd trend with my 95 wagon. The chassis and front of the car are fine and really have minimal to no rust or even corrosion anywhere....The rear however is a different story. All of the paint has flaked off of the swaybar, some of the bolts are clearly rusted, there is a big metal piece that I guess holds the differential to the chassis almost like a thck metal bar with rubber bushings connecting the tierods and rear suspension...well most of/all of the paint has rusted off and it looks like rot...nothing is rotted through, but it looks nasty....I have heard of older subies rotting out, but are the newer ones supposed to do that too? Car drives perfect, and I am finally in the home stretch of replacing all of the parts that need to be replaced, so I am hoping my problem is common, and nothing to worry about. Thanks - Dan
  14. Subaru paint sucks. Welcome to the world of it. My 04 wrx has clearcoat issues and chips on the front up the yin yang...you'd think they would have fixed the problem by now....go to nasioc.com and search "paint problems" and "crappy paint" about fifty million threads will come up.
