  1. Thats kinda up to you! lol! The Legacy proly has a bit more weight and might not be as nimble driving through the twistys... I like the WRX myself...
  2. X3 or what ever on ignition switch! My wifes 93 did the very same thing. I pulled it all apart, tested it by starting the car with just the switch, turning it off, etc... I just worked it a few times, attached the battery, and it worked!
  3. You can buy some stuff made by prestone that you just drain, fill with water and the juice, run, drain, fill with water, repeat as many times as you want (at least 3). That was what got all the stop leak out of my car....
  4. Figured I would drop in and say howdy, and give an update on our PITA, the 99 obw that had the heads redone the 2nd time (first since I owned it..) in 30k miles.... She is running great! We made it back and forth to Idaho just fine! Took it up to Packwood a few weekends back for an autocross (didnt race the wagon, dont worry), drove great. Kinda fun being able to haul around 3 people and a baby with room to spare! The car is starting to grow on me in a good way now, so that is good. I am amazed at how peppy and how much power the 2.5 has compared to my 1.8 in my 08 Corolla. Just trying to give the guys posting up their over heating problems a bit of hope. As long as you like the car, it has fair miles, in good shape, and you can get it done for what you feel is a fair price, go for it. Thanks a ton to all the people telling me not to give up on it, and helped with all the tips and pointers as well!! Great group on this forum!!
  5. X2 On the tire ballance. You can wear down a set of tires not doing that for a while as well.
  6. Check to make sure the stat doesnt stick... I had a bad one that I put in. I think my heads were still bad, but I dont think the thermostat helped matters any. Also, gbhrps post makes sense as well. Did you do it, or did you have a shop do it?
  7. Alright, got it back, feels fine, no noise after the fix. Mikaleda, I actually forgot all about the hill hold feature!!! It does not work on this car... Is it an easy fix? If not, I wont worry about it as both of us know how to drive a stick well enough to not need. it.
  8. Alright, so it turns out not to be the throw out bearing... cut n pasted from the email he sent me... It is coming from the shift fork wiggling on the push rod from the slave cylinder. Most likely the pivot ball inside the bell housing for the clutch fork is worn. A little bit of pressure on the fork (i.e. a spring) takes care of the free play and thus the noise. Soooooo, we are going to install a return spring on the clutch fork like allot of other Subarus come with from the factory.
  9. Alright, the saga continues... I am thinking of just giving the car to my friend since it likes spending soooo much time at his shop... Started squeeking a bit, we both thought it was just the belt needed to be tighter, until Sunday night went to dinner at my parents house. Pull up, my dad is standing out front... 'I thought they put a new clutch in that for ya'.... me-'they did'... 'what the hell is the squeek then??' me-'belt is just a bit loose'.... 'naww that is your throw out bearing. start it up, work the clutch pedal a couple times, it will go away when the clutch goes in I bet.' me-'ookkk'..... Sure enough... My dad has seen his share of those with his old mazda pick up and Ford Pinto's (hell of a lot more reliable than the subaru!!) that he has owned... So, a new clutch kit again... Bad part in the last one.... Any way to test those out before you put them in?
  10. hahaha! what are the odds?!?!? awesome, that I think would be worth it.
  11. Just a good polish/sand and I would think you would be good. Agree with mikaleda though, you cant really tell from the pic what is marred up. Either way, I dont think you are too bad off. I know that feeling though!!
  12. LOL!! John, you guys sound like you have about the same kinda relationship my wife and I have! wife-my brakes on my truck need changed!! me-I just did them last year... wife-do them again!! LOL!! Arent they great... We could just get a divorce, but those can turn up costing more than just keeping her.... Noooo, I love my wife, she puts up with me, I put up with her. So it does sound like it might be worth picking up the aaa+ or what ever the upgraded deal is they do (I looked at it 5 minutes ago, and dont remember...) That would proly get us taken care of if something simple goes wrong with it. Have a friend on a fly fishing forum that blew his hg on his subaru on I90 in the middle of bfe, towed it to a small town in spokane, gave the tow shop the car after finding out it was the hg and would take a while to fix, called the spokane subaru dealer and just bought a new car, lol. I do not have the money for something like that, but I could get my family to a safe place at least until a friend could come tow us back home.
  13. This is true... We wanted to take the subaru so we could bring all the crap with us we need to bring for a 5 day trip to Idaho with a 6 month old.
  14. So we are going to be going to Idaho in a couple weeks, and want to take the pita... I feel the car is going to be sturdy and run forever now, but.... I was thinking of signing up for AAA for a month, just so we have it for the trip incase something goes wrong near the intersection of bum f#ck nowhere and the middle of nowhere Washington.... Do you guys think this would be worth it to have 'just in case'? My wife and 6 month old son is going with, so I really wouldnt want all of us to be stranded in say Starbuck, Wa. Nothing against the town if you live there... Its just proly not known for its subaru repair shops or any repair shops actually... What do ya think????
