Took the Mistress off the pavement! Pics included!
RdNkBrt replied to RdNkBrt's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Yup, single range 4wd. To tell you the truth, i wasnt sure how well it would do,but it didnt even come CLOSE to getting stuck once. I had a little loss of power problem on a hill climb we did, but other than that, no issues at all. A couple of the mud holes were pretty technical too, with HUGE rocks in them and wierd angles you had to come out of them at, which meant i had to just CREEP through them, and a coupld times i just came to a stop in them. No problems at all getting going again. The only issue i had was when i was just sitting in a mud hole that was over my tires bragging that my car was donig just as well as my buddies truck and i then realized i had about 3 inches of water over the entire bottom of my car!! hahaha!!! -

i dont know if i'd call a Nisan Hardbody a MACHO truck, but i know where you're comin from on that one!!! -
Well, my buddy and i went off in search of snow today, but 1/2 way there we decided we'd rather just play in the mud and wait for the snowstorm that's heading our way this weekend. SOOO, we headed out this old road near our town in our quest for mud. He's never been off road with a Soob, so he was expecting to have to pull me out.... 4 hours later and a couple of fun photos, he was the one who wound up jackin up his rig. his Nissan is in need of a little repair after he tore his pipe completely off at the muffler.... the Soob ermerged unscathed!! I LOVE MUD!!! And then just for a little prop for my buddy since he made the biggest wave today.....

wide shield wiper speed
RdNkBrt replied to nathan.chase's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
yeah,i tried to speed my wipers up, but it didnt work. my buddy said i should just pull a new motor from a new soob, but im not sure if you can do that or not... so for now i just bought an expensive set of blades, and hope for the best! -
If you did want to go for the saturn seats and need the special tool but dont want to buy it, you can go to AutoZone (not sure if they have them everywhere, but they have them on the west coast anyways...) they have a free "borrow a tool" service, and i believe that they have a few sets of those guys that they will lend you for your trip to the yard.... just a "soob owner" (aka CHEAP) option....

That picture reaffirms my love for all things subaru.... -
just for a time "guesstimate" it took me about 2 months wokring on it about 5 hours a week to get my brat sanded down, all the dings filled, and all but one MAJOR issue worked out. this includes taking all of the lights and stuff off, as well as the doors, door glass etc to get it ready to paint. but i didnt do the jams and stuff cuz im going to paint it back to it's original black. plus i had to heat shrink my hood. that was the first body work i had ever done. It doesnt look PERFECT, but it looks good, and i was going pretty slowly since i kept having to redo bondo that i didnt get right. if you worked dilligently, it shouldnt take you too long. PLUS, if you want to go FASTER than humanly possible, buy a can or two of aircraft paint remover and use that on the hard to sand places, it takes it right down to the metal. Also, if you have a pannel that doesnt need any "fixing", you dont have to take the time to get it all the way down to the metal, you can just bring it down to the factory base and scuff that up and primer. if you have to use bondo though, make sure you take it to the metal.

keep all the hardwear for the seats you have in it and get legacy ones from the yard. as far as i know, you have to keep your mounting brackets and sliders as i do not think anyothers are interchangeable....

Hella moisture in headlights, cant find replacements
RdNkBrt replied to 211's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Can you post a picture of the car? I'm going to be going to at least one, maybe 3 yards between today and tuesday, all of which are known for a large soob collection. I'll be happy to see what i can find if you can give me a good idea of what im looking for. My favorite part of the junkyards is that most of the cars there are nicer than the one i just bought!! JUNKYARDS ROCK!!!! -

Sad Day - How do you replace a GL?
RdNkBrt replied to dbenzmaine's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Yeah, we've got LOADS of rust free's out here in Cali too.they are all over Craigs. depending on your price range i could do a little lookin for you my area, mainly just because i'd hate to lose anyone on here to a CIVIC:headbang: -
well, i drove "The Temptress" to autozone just now and a guy stopped me to tell me he has an 85 GL wagon, Blue, in "great" shape, except for the hood, front bumper and radiator are no good due to a small run in with a tree. Anyways, he says he wants it gone, but he wants 200 bucks for it. I'm thinkin i'll try to get it for 100 if there are indeed good parts on it. SOOOO, i only need a few parts, so if anyone else is interested in either buyin the rest of it to restore (i'll let you know how bad it's hurt when i go see it) or just some parts, let me know!!! if i can make it worth my while to pay to pull it, i'll go grab it next week.

Anyone ever TRIED to fix a cracked dash?
RdNkBrt replied to RdNkBrt's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
cool. that's what i just got finished doing. i bondo'd some of the cracks, and tried some silicon putty for others just to see how well each of them worked so i'll know for future repairs. what did you cover it with once it was sealed? I'm going for spray in bedliner.... -
just found this one in your state... dont know how far away you are from it... http://nashville.craigslist.org/car/237154570.html

DANG!!! I dont know how rare soobies are out there, but that lady's CRAZY! Anyways, my 2 PESOS (they are not worth nearly as much as anyone els'es 2 cents.....) is that anyone who even LISTS a car for that much will probably never come down to EARTH, let alone come down far enough on price to make it worth while! But, what do i know... not much!! ) i'd pay 400. you should buyone of the ones i just posted on another thread in the forum and ship it out there!!! We have subaru's comin out of our ears in Cali!!
-
I see alot of posts about cracked dashboards, but so far i have not seen any on people that have FIXED them. I am just wondering if anyone can tell me A: things they have tried that DID work. or B: Things they have tried that did NOT work (so i dont try the same things and wind up with a big mess on my hands!!!) Any input would be great! I'm TIRED of my dash mat!!!

Pictures of my new Mistress
RdNkBrt replied to RdNkBrt's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Well, if you want a rust free wagon, stick around. i'll probably have to sell her here in a few months, but i want to do some work on her first, mainly the interior. it's not bad, i just have some idea's that i want to try out for future use. (i'm working on one while we speak)... anyways, i mainly bought her to save her from certain death since she's in such good shape. i didnt want her going to the junk yard. anyways, long story short, i'll probably sell her come spring for around what i paid for her, so save up your pocket change! -

SCRAP HER OUT Anyways, 1/2 a pay check later, here she is..... I was planning on bringing her to teh snow today, but by the time i finished a tune up, it was dark... as you can see...I need to wash it and buff her out cuz she's caked with dirt. the only rust is on the push bar!....let me know what you guys think! :headbang: :headbang: :headbang:
