  1. Hey all...curious if anyone could tell me what kinda power you could make with the ej22t with the stock components with the exception of a Link comp. The application would be offroad so emissions wouldnt apply. Ive searched this forum and a few others and have seen some numbers but most of them were with bottom end mods. I also read that stock the engine was 160..is that correct? Thanks for your input.Mike
  2. Im in Idaho...so st anthony idaho is the only place I go. A few more guys have rails now so we make take more trips...for us any trip is a road trip. I try to go 6 or so times a year but stay for a week each time...gotta make the drive worth it:)...
  3. Right on...your bus should hold up as like you dont get too rough her:) I found a good used ej22 for 200 bucks. My vw is still pieces waiting for machine work...it may not even go back together if the crank is bad. Where do you dune mainly?..
  4. Pretty cool buggy! Chenowth has always built really nice cars. My plan it to get away from the veedub. My engine is tore down for a refresh and for what its gonna cost to go through it I could be well on my way to a subi. Ive contemplated the 2.5 non turbo just cause I know my type 1 wont live long. Ive driven cars with that setup and they just dont have the punch off the bottom like the vw with a set up duals....So my plan is one of 2 things. A 2.2 with custom disty and dual 44 webers -or- a 2.5 with the stand alone crank fired igntion with carbs. Biggest reason for the carbs is I already have a set and I can tune them when needed no computer crap to go south on me!!!! So far pretty much everyone is saying "WHY" would you do that?????I will do a full post when its completed. Going from your 1915 to the 2.0t is gonna be HUGE...hope your tranny is ready for it:)....let me know how the swap goes...have you started the swap yet.....Mike
  5. I have talked to a couple guys that have and they loved them. Seem to be a bit more involved that using a Link or other setup. What are you currently running for an engine. IM debating a swap as well.Mike
  6. Hey everyone..its been months since ive been back. Ive researched my rump roast off as to how to set up ignition on a 2.5 without a computer. I did get a reply from porubi who aparently built his own setup...im pretty good but not that good:) Electromotive makes a stand alone dis that I could make work however its like 7-800 bucks. I dont have a problem spending the money but im still experimenting and still unsure how this thing would compare to my current engine once I did get it up and running. I recently got my hands on a ej25 dohc that had been overheated. I got a manual and just for kicks to get familar with the engine I tore it down to a short block. These engines are cool, everything is labeled where it goes! I think the engine may have gotten a little too hot and may be scrap but the price was right to get to play with one if nothing else.ANYHOW....ive heard of guys converting a ford dist to work on an ej22, ive also read about guys running a 2.5 block with 2.2 heads????So could I run 2.2 heads and adapt a disty to take care of my igntion issue and at the same time gain a little more dispacement? If so which heads would I need to get my hands on? Im bound and detemined to get one of these running on my stand and eventually in my sand car. Im at a standstill until I figure out how to get FIRE:)...any help would be awesome..thanks everyone! Mike
  7. Iknow im in the wrong place but ive looked eveywhere else with no help. What im looking at doing has been done but finding the guy who did it has been a dead end. I own a 2 seat seat midengine sandrail, presently powered by a 2332 vw. As everyone here knows the two engines share a few similarities....anyhow, to the point. I know a guy who took an EJ22, removed the intake, built some new manifolds and mounted twin 44idf weber carbs on it. He then used a distributor from another vehicle and adapted it to the subi engine. He compared the way to ran to a "very angry well built vw"...ie 2276....2387 etc. I know there are plenty of options with the 2.5 2.0t...aftermarket computers.....ive seen some wild subi's in sandcars and theyre everything a vw has always wished it was!....I like the idea of the carbs for a few reasons.....mainly the cost and simplicity of no electronics, not to mention there are lots of 2.2's that can be bought pretty cheap. My biggest issue here is making a distributor work. If I can get that part figured out im set....anyhelp here????Thanks in advance for any help....I also was directed to this link where a ej25 is used with weber ida carbs??????http://www.projectaerosol.com/porubi/
