  1. i don't NEED the hill holder, i can drive a manual fine, but it's kinda like a dog licking its balls, you know. i can so why not? who knows if i will ever actually fix it. knowing me, probably not. but thanks again for the help lads. it was greatly appreciated. cheers, fleaborg.
  2. an update. drove susie around for the day and had no repeat of the accelerator weirdness. all seems well... for now. cheers, fleaborg.
  3. well, had a look at the cables and pedals and the only thing amiss is the need for a new hill holder cable. so hopefully this problem will just dissapear becasue, as i said, i can't see anything weird or unusual. once again, thanks all. fleaborg.
  4. yeah, thats what im looking at tomorrow. gonna check cables also and see if anything might be interfering there. I've had the old girl up and crawled around underneath rattling stuff as i go and couldn't find anything. but it is quite possible I've missed something so I'll have another check, shake a bit harder. i shall also look at the hill holder. I've only had the car about 6 months and haven't had the hill holder work even once. I've been meaning to have a go at fixing it but have, until now, been more concerned about the drift. so far a brake thing seems the most likely cause of the drift to me with my limited mechanical knowledge. that might have to wait a week or two though as i'm going away for a few days next week. thanks for the suggestions so far fellas. they're greatly appreciated. fleaborg.
  5. alright. my apologies in advance for any inability on my part to provide a proper explanation or details. that said... i own a 4WD '86 DL wagon with dr MT. over the past two days my father and i have been trying to discover whats causing a clunk in my rear suspension over bumps. we noticed the two big rubber stoppers in front of the rear wheels and assumed that they were contacting with the metal plate below it. in an attempt to remedy the situation we changed the adjustable suspension to the middle slot. this in itself managed to take us two days (one set of spring compressors had prongs that were too big, the other set didn't fit on the tiny springs properly. ended up removing the strut. SO much easier). during this process i decided to clean my the outside of my diff (it appears to have a minuscule leak). used some petrol. should mention that i also have a drift to the left and a wobble in the steering wheel. I've had all 4 wheels balanced and aligned. a couple of attempts at the alignment actually. they seem to think the radius arm is bent but it isn't. the clunk remains. my drifting left remains. my wobble remains. still no idea whats up with them. now, to the point, after doing all this I've been driving Susie (Susie Soob) around tonight and have discovered a problem neither my father or i can explain. i change gear, doesn't matter what gear, let the clutch out, put my foot on the accelerator and the accelerator barely moves. i mean like a few mm, 5 tops. put the clutch in and out again and normal operation resumes. it isn't every time i change gear by any means, maybe once in every 10. any experience or ideas? cheers, fleaborg.
  6. hehehehe. good one dude. but no, there are steering issues. i think theyre caused by driver issues. i have a feeling i damaged something mechanical when i hit the telephone pole but i havent the money to fix it atm so...
  7. ive been lurking around this board for a while and have learned much. i thought it was about time i joined. so, im from brisbane, AUS and have an '86 DL wagon. its the first car ive driven and i adore her. i owned an lh torana before hand but she was stolen and burned out a few weeks before i got my license. grrrrr... trying to get susie subie back to awesome condition (ive hit some stuff (on my 3rd front indicator assembly) and previous owner was a woman with highly questionable driving skills). poor girls taken some hail damage, truck damage and telephone pole damage. and there's something wrong with my steering that i just cant figure out. but thats a topic for another thread. in conclusion, hi.
  8. i know. the thread is by no means out of date. i read the wrong date. *smacks forehead*
  9. here's hoping that this thread isnt too far out of date. im definitely interested in leather cv boots. sooo sick of replacing joints when the boot tears. $200 each is a little too much for a student to afford.
