  1. Trying to get some Tunes in the ole' Brown-a-roo and what seems like it should be very simple is not so. I would like it to look decent, otherwise I would just hack it in. soooooo...does anyone have any suggestions? I bought a 'kit' from the following link: http://www.installer.com/item/display_item.php?it=99-8900 BEWARE this item does NOT allow installation of a single DIN radio into a '82 hatch. It will only allow the double post install. Since my cassette tape collection has gone the way of the dodo thats not really an option. Major Lazy AKA Carl
  2. Very simple question for you folks.... What years were ea81 made? I am asking because someone is selling parts from an '84 and I want to put the seats in my '82. I have searched the forums but everyone just seems to KNOW the exact years these were made...except me. And before you ask, I would simply measure the seats but theyre a long ways off....but not too far if they fit and are in good shape, I love that cheesy brown plaid! thx. heres the car being parted out for all you WA bros: http://seattle.craigslist.org/see/pts/288928615.html
  3. Does anyone know where I can find a diagram (or any info for that matter) on the cruise on my '82 hatch 4wd? I have scoured my clymer and haynes and am now nearly blinded from looking at those tiny wiring diagrams. The cruise just stopped working and I really miss it. Thanks for the help, Carl
  4. The car did make noise while going in a strait line...intermittently. The noise was like metal on metal grinding. There was so much play that the brake shield (if thats what you call it) was sometimes grinding on the rotor. The guy I bought the car from said the recently installed a half shaft and the boot looks good. Sooooo... I just went out and tightened up the castle nut after pulling the rotor off. The splines on both the shaft and the rotor looked great. Now it doesn't make any noise!! you guys rock. Do you think I did any permanent damage? The steering bar thingy (technical term, i looked it up) looked tight btw.
  5. Greetings all, I have searched the MB and cant seem to find the answer to this question, so if someone knows its already here pls let me know. I have a 1982 hatch 4wd that seems to need a front wheel bearing. I figured this out because it makes a horrible racket turning left and when i jacked the car up the right front wheel has a lot of play in it (about 1/4 inch at the tire). The car has been doing this for some time, about 400-500 miles (yes i am lazy). I have to assume if the wheel bearing was any good its shot now. My manuals basically say...dont do this have the shop do it. Money is of course an issue so I would like to do this myself even if I have to spend the same amount on tools because then I will have them forever. so, can anyone help with instructions on how to do this? It cant be THAT hard.... I hope. Thanks, Major Lazy AKA Carl
  6. Ok you Uber Subaru Geeks (no insult intended) have me completely confused with this whole post. I drive a 82 GL Hatch with 4wd....I am running about 3800 RPM at 70mph. I had thought that installing a 5 speed would help me lower RPM's at highway speeds but sounds like maybe not. would a 83+ 4speed help at highway speeds or would it even install easily. If a 5 speed does not lower the rpms then what is the benefit of all that work??? TY
  7. I took my bone stock 82 hatch to longbeach and had a blast....then i got stuck in the dark in soft dry sand. If you stay in the moist sand its no prob. yea and make sure your boots are good...i needed new cv joints within about a month after that cuz one boot was torn.
  8. It is a 4wd D/R...hoping to scour the junkyards for a tranny to bolt in.
  9. Greetings, Does anyone know where I could find out what year/body style 5 speed tranny could be installed into my 1982 1800cc 4 speed hatchback with limited mods? I am hoping to simply get a tranny and linkage and just bolt her in, am I asking the impossible? This forum is the greatest by the way! Thanks, Carl
